Newcomer / Intro Welcome to Jameson Memorial noobie - "Now die"

Shinrarta Dehzra is a hot spot for gankers. On the inara.cz galaxy security report (top left) you can see where the hot spots are. Usually there are around 10 of them. Systems with active Community Goals and some systems with engineers in them (Deciat) are always on the list. The inhabited bubble has around 20,000 systems so 10 in 20,000 shows how low the chance of running into gankers actually is. You can play in open for months or even years without running into any.

To be fair, the inara.cz list also includes normal competitive PvP activity like in the San Tu system. If you jump into such a system you are fairly safe because those players usually inquire via chat if you're in for a fight and will not engage if you decline.

My advice is to be pragmatic about it. If you don't want to waste time dealing with gankers, simply switch to solo or a private group one jump before reaching a hot spot, do your business there, jump out and switch back to open.

All good advice but remember that away from the aforementioned hot spots you rarely find many more players in Open than you would in Solo it is a very big galaxy and even in the bubble there are many more places to be than players so play in whatever mode suits you.

99% of the time i will avoid these dudes as many are suggesting by PG or solo to enter the hotspot. Then while sitting in the station, i'll switch back to open, get a sandwhich and a cuppa and try and understand their tactics for a while. At some point you may feel you have the finance, experience and equipment to stick it to em. secondly, this also populates one of the comms panel tabs with cmdr names and allows you to use the block feature. Its not perfect but you are very unlikely to be instanced again with anyone you block.

Remember to switch back to PG or solo for your exit.

happy hops Cmdr.

Or just play on PS4 - most places even Shin are pretty much dead - or seem to be when I am playing.

Even when notorious places are crowded... it's just a simple truth that PS4 Cmdrs are a better breed.

I tried (passively) to get 'ganked' "or 'griefed' with my alt - Viper, DBX, Phantom - from purchase to upgrading and engineering all in open, while keeping my combat rating as low as possible. Nothing, nada, not even the wing of Fed ships lurking at Deciat.

There was a time when if you went there in open you got a welcome, congrats and a nice chat. Then they let the riff-raff in.
Waves!
;)

Hellooooo, Jameson!

Actually, that is precisely the welcome I got first time I arrived at Shinrarta - I jumped in all naiive, and said in group "I finally made it! o7 Commanders!" or something equally sappy. I got a chorus of welcomes and that was pretty much it. In realspace docking at Jameson the same greeting basically got crickets.
I've actually been ganked...so to speak...at Jameson only once - by some dude in an Adder that thought he was up to my G5-everything 'Vette. He certainly had spirit; which is exactly what he was 5 seconds after my multiguns deployed. :ROFLMAO:
Cheers!

One time I visited there somebody with some small ship started shooting my Cutter with some laser weapon. Shields did not budge noticeably, no need to break autodock sequence, I just took it nonchalantly, no need to lash back....

I'm aware of that, my point is that - contrary to what you said - the connotations of the word dangerous will have had a large bearing on the choice of title.

Not contrary to what I said - I was admonishing someone for saying "It's Dangerous" to the OP. Your tangential riposte re marketing just trigged me into providing the background to my previous post. Maybe I was wrong but I felt you were supporting the erroneous assertion that the reason for the game's name was the state of the galaxy whereas as the video I presented shows, it is based on a rating in the Pilots Federation. The simple fact that this is the Newcomers forum is why I wanted to clear that up.

Hi - This is my first post and I just want to voice my concern and disappointment about the proud moment I finally unlocked Shinrarta Dezhra. This took me months to finally achieve, so was somewhat excited to be making my way to Jameson Memorial, only to Jump in and immediately be attacked and destroyed within minutes by some "Heroic" commander who wanted to welcome me. I was not carrying anything in my hold, so there was no financial gain for them. This has put me off playing in 'Open Play', which i'm gutted about. Is there no control in 'Open Play' to discourage this type of behaviour? Seems a shame that elitist players with engineered ships and a wealth of experience take it upon themselves to decide who is worthy to join the community.....I could understand if I was carrying cargo - we all need to make a living! Has anyone else had this experience...and if so, what would you advise?
You've been ganked at Founders, welcome to the club. LOL. Yeah, that system is full of people desperate to demonstrate their superiority and at some point they getting annoying. I do all my ship and module shopping at Jameson so I travel there often enough and I have few options. I fly there on something real fast (so I could escape if I have to), I fly there on my armed to the teeth Cutter so I could fight back (and somehow I get attacked extremely rarely) or if I have to take there something that wasn't meant for the battle feld I use Solo Mode. Another thing to consider is to pay more attention to your radar. If you see somebody moving behind your tail, expect interdiction. Usually I would make some sharp turn and watch the ship in question. If he makes turn as well, most likely he's after you. If you not sure if you can escape from interdiction (flying T9 for example) drop out of SC and start recharging FSD ASAP with your throttle below 3/4. If nobody shows up in a few minutes you probably OK. If somebody drops in nearby just push your throttle immediately and you'll be back in SC in a second, don't even try to scan or anything. This move will give you some time to fly away. You don't have to feel yourself obliged to do some fighting because somebody pulled you over. If you not ready to fight or just don't feel like fighting you can always leave, choice is always yours.

I've never been ganked at ShinDez. The only problem I ever had was one CMDR who insisted on repeatedly ramming me whilst I was waiting in the docking queue.

Gotta love that "block" function.

I have - twice now.
Went like this:

"I'm a ganker!!" (boink, boink...) "I'm MEEEEAN!" (Pops off some weak lasers) "FEAR ME!!!" (Takes 0.3%off my shields)
Me: (sigh)

Ganker returns to the dust from whence he came. ;)

Hey, I'm definitely with you on this. Don't listen to ppl who's advice is to "get used to PVP. It is fun" - in ED if you are new, the combat isn't fun at all, it's frustrating. I was also ganked first time I reached Jameson Memorial but I knew I will be. Even then it wasn't pleasant. I purposely relogged from a safe group Mobius Eurasia to Open, bought a basic ship and entered 'hyperspace' just to be ganked a moment later by two anacondas. Without a warning, without a chance, without any rules. No matter how other think about it, for me this completely chaotic pvp universe is a dumb idea. People attack each other and have like 200-300 credits fine only and only on a ship/modules, not on a player, lol. And the player killed looses the ship which means every kill costs not only life but also a lot of credits.
This game in many areas (not all though) is like Frontier First Encounters from 1995. It seems Devs didn't learn a lesson from the past, because we can read on the Wiki that similar problems they had with the FFE:
Reception
First Encounters was well reviewed, despite being released before the development team thought it was ready.[3] While the game employed an advanced and realistic Newtonian mechanics flight model, rather than the original arcade-style engine, many players found it frustratingly difficult, particularly in combat.

Each to their own, of course.
The day I got my permit to the Founder's World, I headed there in my Python Hertz Doughnut wrapped in pleasure at having achieved Elite status. Perhaps I arrived on a GOOD day, but the moment I arrived I broadcasted my joy and honour at arriving at Jameson's. I was greeted with hails and welcomes.
From that point, I've been attacked in the SD system exactly twice; neither were in any way problematic.

I'm unsure, but if a new Elite member arrived at Shinrarta Dezhra and crowed "Yah! I'm Elite now! Me boss!" I just might take him down a peg. If they arrived and expressed genuine joy at arriving at this significant destination, I would escort them in with salutes and hails.
Perhaps it's less 'ganking' than 'Gameplay'.
