Well done FD

I wanted to put on record that the work undertaken by FD with 1.3 has been simply stunning.
OK so there are some issues surrounding Power Play that we are all hoping will be fixed, but you cannot fault the team at FD for all their hard work.
I hope all the discussions about decay and grind are listened to and enacted upon like most other people. But the basic idea for a massive space opera is brilliant and inspired.
The last thing I want is for the developers to come on here after so much hard work and be disappointed with everyone's comments. So much is right about PP and with a few tweaks it will enhance our gaming experience immensely.

Tweaks needed
  1. Reduce the rate of decay
  2. Do not make it a factional grind where you compete against allied commanders
  3. Don't allow commanders to be hostile in all other 9 factions, surely some will be loosely allied (at least at first)

We already have a simply stunning game on our hands which is worth every penny spent several times over. But if the few obvious game-play fixes are made, this will be a game without peers.

1.3 is actually the first Beta since release where I haven't bothered going back to the main game once since the Beta launched.

It simply adds stuff to do and enemy/s to mess with . That's a step up if you ask me even if the larger meta-game might take months to refine to a broader audience.

Anyone else want to add to this thread? Show some love?

no need for applause. If they do not rethink the whole concept powerplay will leed to boring grind.

there is no depth added. Working for one power or another will not make a big diffrence. Transporting cargo from point a to point b will be the main job pp has to offer. There are more fun things to do.

We all know that they can do much better.

I have lots of love for v1.3. I can tell as soon as I undock whether I'm in 1.3 Beta 4 or in the older 1.2, based on the audio crispness and the smoothness of frame rate.

I tried hard to break all that anti-ramming speed limit stuff, and I couldn't. It all Just Worked.

I love the Diamondback, with its Tardis sounds. I love my existing Imperial Clipper with its new Superman World Engine supercruise sounds. I love that "Repair Paint" isn't part of "Repair All". I love all the audio layering and staging, back with a vengeance. NPCs now spout some great messages in supercruise. NPC assassination targets are now in supercruise. A million nice, cool things have been added.

For me, the whole 1.3 Beta has been pretty much trouble-free in terms of stability. More stable than any prior beta.

Having said all that, I'm totally happy to wait for however long it takes FD to get it Ready.

Not in a rush.

I think 1.3 is going to be awesome.
I'm not even sure about some of the complains but I'll leave that for beta testers to iron out with FD.
It looks like classic RvRvR or Server v Server, we have powers v powers and I think it sounds really promising.
Ofc there is a few things that will need sorting but all in all I'm looking forward to it and alot of beta testers are doing good job now.
I hope it is as good as it looks.

I wish they would add the horn back to the Unsanctioned Outposts. I used to love docking at them and hearing that horn blasting. :)

Otherwise, it looks really promising.

Yes, most impressive is that each Power has a different character and policies/laws that will apply within their borders. The map will be full of new opportunities, and commanders will need to keep an eye on wider politics to find the best profits.

And this will effect all players, not just those who pledge to a power. Take a look at the passive bonuses each power will apply in their space:

https://www.reddit.com/r/EliteDange...wer_control_effects_the_policies_and_bonuses/

They effect production and demand, give influence boosts to aligned minor factions, raise or lower security making places more/less volatile.

Halsey, for example is a microcosm of the military industrial complex: he creates instability with one hand while selling weapons with the other. He favours federation minor powers, so eventually Empire systems will succumb to instability and find it hard to survive within his borders. Torval is a mining baron, flooding the market with metals but creating a great opportunity for traders to export. Aisling Duval bans all Slavery within her borders, and encourages the opulent trade in expensive goods.

Each Power, and each area of space, will have a unique character, and players may find many new strategies for exploiting one against another. This is what makes the update exciting for me.

If this works as intended, it could be a game changer: adding new variation, opportunity, and character to the galaxy.

My main complaint is that either Merits or Missions should come with a cash reward. Perhaps only if the action is successful, to encourage focused teamwork.

This^ for me also. Even the fact I wont really be touching PP doesn't really bother me much now that the initial disappointment has worn off.

They don't need to "rethink the whole concept powerplay". The concept and main foundation is just fine, great even.

However...

There needs to be more direct incentive for helping Powers other than the current non paying ones. Also more interesting missions than moving things from A to B as you say, but these are specific aspects of the feature. Some can be fixed rather easily by simply giving us combatbonds/payment for completing individual tasks for a Power. Others, like more involved missions, can be added in over time.

Beyond the main Powerplay feature 1.3 is great with lots of little improvements all over the place! :)

The only other thing I don't get is the prospector drones which has very little use at the moment. If these would have created a "heatmap" on top of the asteroid that made it possible to aim towards specific resources for maximum gain (as described in the Mining design proposal) then they would have been great. In their current form they are rather pointless IMO.

I've tested beta 1.3 release 4 as much as I could in the little time I have had and I can honestly say that when I log into live 1.2 now all I can think is damn I want to be back in the beta.

It feels so much crisper and smooth and there's tons of new little things all over the place which are just a flat out improvement. I know there's been a lot of criticisms of some of the powerplay mechanics but in the small time I played with it I found it was pretty cool.

I joined a power and then went to help fortify a system that was clearly being undermined by an enemy. I was watching the radar like crazy whilst doing it thinking all the time that those hollow blips could be the enemy. It definitely gave purpose to my actions and heightened the experience.

I dunno, maybe I'm easily pleased but I liked it.

Well another commander summed it up very well. So I really like to just quote that post from the beta forum. I could not have pointed it out better myself.

"* It's too grindy for too little reward
* There's little motivation for people with limited play time to get involved
* Becoming hostile to other powers makes a mockery of the crime and punishment system in the game, particularly because powers and factions are not at war with each other but the current system treats things like they are and penalises people for having the temerity to defend themselves.
* The sorts of things you have to do to help powers are kind of limited and boring in the first place
* The weekly 'turns' feel arbitrary and at odds with the real time nature of the rest of the game."

The weekly turns are far too long IMHO. It ist not fun to wait one week to see the result of your actions.
