Well for me, the grind begins...

By trade I'm a pirate but I won't say no to a bounty if it's on offer ;)
I've avoided trading at all costs apart from about a million profit on rares very early game.
My issue is I need credits. All this small time crookery has got me nothing so far.

What drew me to the highwayman life was the sheer fun and sometimes complexity of pirating.
I shall return to my chosen path but for now this pirate is going to put his credits to work.

I have probably 30m in assets. I don't want to use trade tools as I'm hoping to get some fun out of finding trades.

First job. Max tonnage.. I'm assuming a type 7 for my budget? Max pr/ph I can expect from that ship?
I have no knowledge of fitting a trade ship so any help is welcome.

ill probably be back with questions but as I sit here in the shipyard what am I looking at. Not sure if my discount is active but type 7 is 17m here. Does that sound about right?

Get empire rank then. The clipper is just too good compared to the type7 to not use it, especially since you already have the money

What rank do I need to hit with those guys? I've not really ranked up on any yet. I'm allied and cadet with Feds. Nutral I think to empire and allied with the alliance

This is mine Buck

Only had it a few weeks.... running a docking computer whilst I get used to the low position cockpit location

also have 2 x D0 shield boosters... just gives me a little extra shield time whilst I boost away from interdiction... again they are optional

only other advice... scout out a trading route in advance

EDIT

baron needed for Clipper

Cheers Andy. I'm super tempted to just go with the type 7 going to have dinner and mull it over. Messing around to baron seems like time wasted when I could be earning..

Given the income curve of a good Bounty-Hunting location or Conflict Zones - Trading isn't really required.

So if you need money - you can always bounty-hunt while Sub-Targeting Cargo Catches :D
That should give you a nice bonus to existing bounties.

In the price class of 30M, a nicely kitted Asp or a basic Clipper should do just fine as multirole ships.

If you decide to go Type-7, just remember that you'll quickly earn enough Credits for a 2nd fun-ship. Taking some breaks from trading will be a welcome change to trade-grinding, and a small 2nd ship for pure combat duties will be a good thing to have.

Christ I'm getting all sorts of ideas now. I have an Asp but the tonnage is too small. I need to see a profit spike or I'll not bother with it.

Getting the T7 will mean stripping and probably selling the Asp :/

You can always buy it back, you're only going to lose around 600k if you strip it down first.
the clipper can evolve from trader to capable pirate ship as you earn the money, and as mentioned its a better trader than the T7.
you will see an improvement in income with a type 7, plus it will do you some good to be prey for a while.

I would extol the virtues of keeping enough money on hand for insurance purposes after accounting for the cost of a hold full of palladium, but I never did that for any ships, so, never mind.

I never knew the type 7 had such a nice big open cockpit, I may have to trade in my asp and try exploring in it. But to stay on topic, yes if you can (shudders) lower your standards to work for the Imperials the Clipper is one sexy multi role ship that beats out several of the type specific ships right under its price range (type 7, ASP, Vulture(for res sites only), ect.)

If you want to see some VR pictures of the T7 bridge look here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=72140

It is massive, like sitting in a factory. Larger than the T9 but all on one level

This actually is sound advice...... pure BH/Res farming OR trading is really boring (IMO)..... it's the main reason why I chop and change when the boredom threashold gets near.

the T7 will earn you cash @ a steady rate and you can either

a) re-buy your ASP for multi-task

or

b) splash on a Vulture for BH/RES

I do have a trading Clipper as well ... but fly that on the weekend when I have access to my main rig... ( crashing a T7 on my laptop is much cheaper than the big "C" )

have you considered running a T6 (100 tons and outpost friendly) to fund your T7 project ??? that way you can keep the ASP

Sold off the asp got a t7. First run I nicked off a trade tool but that was for testing.

Trade tool 1 run there and back took 18mins for half a million. The t7 sounds like a massive passenger plane I love the noise. Good job as I got bored on my first run but I'm putting that down to using a tool to test out my timings.

I'll still only do a couple of runs a night, I can't be grinding the trade but say 1.5m ph x2 hrs a night.
Say 5 times a week that 15m right there. If I buy a cheap fighter each end of my route I can have a little res fun too to bump cr and kill the boredom.

Edit for specs. Left it with shield, chaff. 216 tonne and near 17ly jump.
Found out straight away she gets hot so might look at the power plant. Still need to D grade stuff to up the jump a bit but I can see she's a worker already.

I'll call her Donkey Kong I think :)

The Asp has a serious pair of advantages:
jump range
combat ability
if you do rares, get a good FSD drive and you can jump so far, quickly, you can rack up money :)

Not sure if you followed the post silver blade I sold the Asp and consider it a bit too big to run rares.
Idealy I'm looking for a 2 min route that pays about 30m each way. That should do it :)

Well working from scratch without using a trade tool is bloody hard. Any body know where I can buy paininte?
Where I am I can't even cheat using trade tools as there's no info here!!
