Well Frontier, You've Gone and Done It Again...

You've gone and released another kick-butt patch. [up]

First, to the programmer/artist at Frontier who designed the 'wispy shadow smoke background effect' behind the system text during the pre-hyperspace jump sequence can claim a drink off me any day. That is one of the most elegant and subtle effects I've ever seen and took me completely by surprise. I missed it for the first three or four jumps, but I eventually spotted it when a nebula was directly in front of me. Hauntingly executed and I mean it, free frosty beverage of your choice.

The 2.2 change log is immense. I needed a nap half way through. :D

There are a few issues, but I'll reserve those for the bug section. Overall, it was stable for my two hour exploration session and it performed as stated on the tin. All of the bugs I highlighted in 2.1 have been addressed. Also, my Asp feels like it's had a bit of a buff in handling. The mini-ship animation is certainly more active in rolls and turns.

I'm seeing many more pros than cons at this stage and before people start whining about this or that as they inevitably will, I just wanted to say thank you to the staff at Frontier for this stellar effort. Cheers lads and lasses.

Well, nice read.
Was all ready for the barrage of snarky posts and complaints but was pleasantly surprised by this one. Unfortunately my update is still downloading.

The updating has improved nicely over the last few patches. I'm in the middle of the North Atlantic and had few issues.

I concur - I like what I've seen so far, what I've been able to find so far, and what I've had time to mess with so far.
And I'm sure once everyone has finished downloading and they finally feed and change the hamsters in their treadmills that run their servers, the performance impact will improve and things will get back to close to normal again.
