Well I feel like "A right ninny" (Rank progression credit amounts)

So I've been out and about in the galaxy, I was flying back from Sag A*, but I decided to grind some experience on the long indirect way back and scan lots of things. I read the explorer article on the wiki, and read the amount of credits I needed to earn to advance each rank - I want to be Elite by the time I get back!!!

I am Trailblazer at the minute, si I read roughly, that I'd need (I'm pulling numbers out of thin air here), 16mil to advance to Ranger, 58mil to advance to Pioneer, and 172 or something mil to advance to Elite.

Now it seems - and I hope I'm right about my new realisation - that I misunderstood this. I took it to mean that I'd need (from Trailblazer) to earn 16mil, and then another 58mil, and then another 172mil, for a total of 246mil.
But I've got a sneaking suspicion that I might only actually need to earn a total of 172mil.

Which one is it? Am I out here until August or can I go home in a couple of weeks? :p

Awesome. I've been far out of the bubble for three weeks, it'd be nice to return to a bit of fanfare :D. I think I'll use the money from exploring to buy a type 9, and the money from using that in trading to buy something sparkly with loadsa gunz :D.

Just as a reference. There's a couple of us who just came back after a 5 month trip, and the earnings were about 130 mil credits. And these are pretty active CMDRs

That was my experience after my first trip to Beagle Point (I came home via the neutron fields as well... although I only scanned a few hundred of them while there)

yep, after four months and a bit I got around 120 million. Would have been more if I had scanned more, but I was losing the will to live on the way back, and buckied the last 10K.

It all depends on how much you scan. My last two-month trip netted me 227 million, it was some 6,000-and change systems if memory serves.

I hit Elite at 154 million but that is apparently due to having done a fair bit of exploration before exploration payouts were doubled.
Now if you really want to be depressed, 2 weeks of trucking slaves on a 1 jump route has made me about 150 million credits by doing around 4-5 trips a day (I did more this weekend to push to Tycoon rank). Around 1.4 to 1.9 million every 15 minutes.
Moral of the story: Exploration isn't a get rich quick profession. :D

Captain's Log is a good tool to keep track of your progress and credits. Get it here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=155545

i got around 80M cr from my DW expedition. that was large amounts of Buckyballing (there and back).

"I only brake for ELW!" i even skipped a couple of those on the way back

My DW trip resulted in just over 5000 systems scans which sold for $70 million (my lifetime total), moving my rank from Surveyor to Pioneer (at 13%, IIRC).

So I've got plenty of exploration ahead of me, on the way to Elite.

For my trip to Beagle and back (the only real exploration trip I've ever undertaken) I netted 224 million. That was a combination of scanning shineys, farming neutrons, and buckyballing in some areas to make up for lost time.

6600 systems, about 4.5 months playing roughly ninety minutes a day, probably an extra four hours or so on weekends
