Well, I just pledged...

First, I cant believe I pledged yet another undeveloped game. Second, I cant believe I actually pledged at alpha level!

I'm really excited for this game. I'm initially from the Star Citizen forums, but (and theres a topic about it i've noticed) some one posted the new capital ship battle video, and it was so badass, I decided to go ahead and make the leap.

Only later I discovered that it was just a pre-rendered cinematic, but I'll join in on the many plea's to have the ingame effects and atmosphere mirror that in the video, IT WAS INCREDIBLE! I mean, the frost effect post warp, the way the comm system updated details as it was came through the transmission on the screen, the dramatic way the pilot entered the battle field... "... I bring friends..." and 3 more ships warp in, and as they form up they just dive right into the fray, dodging some very solid looking laser effects... The simple design of the ships betrayed nothing to how epic the fight was and the intensity of the atmosphere.

I really hope when we get the full game in our hands, the experience will be just as awesome.

So, speaking of getting the game, do we have a time line for Alpha, Beta phase 1/2, and final release? I know the game is due out well before Star Citizen, and though my true allegiance is with SC I genuinely hope E: D is no less epic.

I will be watching with great interest!

Hi Crystles and welcome to you from another SC supporter. :) Firstly, thank you for supporting the game, it's simply great to see more and more SC folks here.

Now to your question, Alpha testing is scheduled for December this year, first round Beta tests the month after that, second round Beta in February and then the game's general release a month following that in March, all things being even of course.

At tier you are at, you also get free game updates, Founder status within the game: access to exclusive missions and better deals on some trade-able commodities, option of starting off on (as well as have access to) the Founders world and a range of starting options and ship specs. So yes looks like you are going to be busy! :D

Have fun in the forum. ;)

Welcome to the team, and its great you're onboard.

I too have pledged a healthy wedge of cash to SC and really hope these games give something different and some high quality gaming to us when they hit the shops.

A good way to catch up with the developments in the game is the lave radio shop, or the DDF archive which shows all the discussions in game development .

It will give you a good idea of the things happening

Greetings Crystles. Glad you decided to pledge. You're not going to be disappointed.

Alpha is scheduled for December 2013. Beta is scheduled for Jan/Feb 2014. Final release is scheduled Apr/May 2014. These dates are subject to change, of course.

Welcome to the fray!

It was actually mostly the game engine at work, not pre-rendered, as far as I understood all the explanations. But scripted so that the flight paths etc. had been set for cinematic effect - and ships got blown up far more easily than they will go off in the final game.

Welcome aboard Crystals. Just to clarify the Capital ship batte was defintely NOT pre rendered. It was scripted by the animators and everything was done by the game engine bar some post production effects. The cockpit was a mockup of course.

You will have fun with the Beta. Alpha access was only available during the KS campaign I believe.

Welcome Crystles!

Judging from material coming out, alpha will be really fun. Especially when MP testing starts :) And it will start just in 3 months, so in right time I might add.

It was badass indeed. No matter of our belief in developer, we were hugely surprised about outcome too.

It is not pre-rendered, but scripted in in-game engine with almost finished graphical assets, which really shows what it is capable to do. It also shows level of detail developers plan to deliver - all things like shield generators, blasts, lasers - they are already in the game. You can read interviews with developers witch essentially worked on that video here http://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?f=39

They use that scene - two capital ships, battle, several planets, solar system with huge clouds - as testing ground for all graphical things. There will be also video I assume next week Friday which will show making of this trailer :)

We all do! :) And with each update things looks better and better.

Alpha will start in December, Beta phase is in January and February, and release March. FD has said that they are on the course to have Alpha in December, and everything seems to be going that way, so get your PC prepared :)

Welcome again and hoping you'll have fun in space :)

Do you know something I don't ? :) I don't think we know when the next one is, Michael hinted that it is not too far away. :)

Last Friday he said "in few weeks". Unless few means three or four, I assume that next "soon" is next Friday (as usual release day) :)

It could be also this week of course, that would be awesome :)

Yeah, but people say a "month" for 3 or 4 weeks :) So few usually means 2, if we talk about weeks.
If they said "month", people would expect it to be out there exactly in a month. But when they say "few weeks", they have more leeway - anything from 3-6 weeks.

A phrase like "a couple of weeks" would be what you said when you wanted to say "about two weeks".

Wow! Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

I'm also very interested hearing that the cinematic was actually rendered with in game assets, and excited to hear that the first 'taste' of Elite: Dangerous is just around the corner. December isnt that far off after all! I also did some more forum scrounging, and read that the developers are actually working on modeling the cockpit into the game right now, and are aiming to have a similar feel concerning the kickbacks/inertia. Sweet!

I've also spent some time on the Design Discussion Archive, and MAN! Totally impressed. No idea that this resource even existed! Some one should grab ahold of whoever manages the main web page and have a link. Finding good concentrated info about the game is kinda difficult. So much!

Ya know, when I first discovered about Elite: Dangerous, it sounded really cool. But the main man, David Braben i believe, had 2 things against him. 1) he looks almost exactly like my dad, which was weird. 2) he had this habit of just not looking at the camera, and seems to be very fidgety in his early dev videos. Almost like he's not confident, or even being knowingly dishonest. That was enough to dissuade me at the time. I decided to take the back seat, and just watch with interest, and its paid off.

@Styggron

Alpha is still available, its just not advertised openly. Seems most of the higher pledges, such as naming a station also still exist (in extremely limited numbers).

Check it! :p

Anyway, I'll leave the gushing fanboi stuff aside and just say again, Thanks for the welcome!

Edit:

As of this edit, there are...

71 Design Decision Forum pledges remaining

125 Space Station Name pledges remaining

7 "Commander Jameson" Name pledges remaining

7 Star System Name pledges remaining

Question: Why is having a "Commander Jameson" name so high value, they'd charge £1300 for it? Thats over 2 grand american $... Whatever it is, they obviously wanted it to be prohibitively expensive, so it must have some meaning. Just curious.

Hi Crystles, Welcome the the forums... The name 'Jameson' is the starting commander name for all the previous Elite games and an Awful lot or the lore is based around 'Commander Jameson', so it's just a bit of nostalgia :D

Welcome Crystles, so DB dodgy and dad dancing! lol being a dave and oldish myself i know that feeling!

Glad you changed your mind, although they say looks arnt everything, the new vid update has certainly peeked many a new and old a likes interest.

I was just thinking those rewards above if they were still on offer come Dec(alpha) or even March(game release) i wonder if Frontiers will do a fire sale?

A nice shiny NAMED station for £10 perhaps? a star Named system for £12.50?
:p

anyway have fun here Crystles.

It'll be too late to mod the galaxy by then I imagine. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if some of those options get cut off very soon.

I also think there would be a slave backers revolt if they sold the rewards cheaper! lol

but yeah your right hadnt thought of that, they have to have everything in names rewards wise in the game before release, was hoping for a buy one get one free to! oh well ;)
