Newcomer / Intro Well, now what do I do?

At a good ole RES point, racking up the bounties, when I accidentally shoot (he runs through my beam laser) a Security vessel and get a "wanted" on me. The sector vessels proceed to disable my engines and leave me spinning through space.... Now what do I do? I have no engines, no repair button, apparently I am strapped into my seat so tightly that I cant get out and fix my own dang engines... Am I doomed to drift through space?

you can go into Modules and activate your beacon - I understand 'someone' may be along to help - if u can afford it.

Look at your "right" status monitor - focus right. Last tab, most of the way through there is a repair and reboot which might work.

I would have to say - try it and see. I don't fully understand the mechanic as when my FSD and drive was disabled - Weirdly it said reboot failed after an elaborate animation sequence, but then I was able to activate my FSD and my thrusters and get home.

Yes, repair and reboot would have worked.

Next time, if you get Wanted, get out of Dodge quickly. Aim for the nearest outpost (not space station, the smaller ones with the different icon) since those have no patrol ships to shoot you when you're going to pay the bribe money to get rid of your wanted status. You have to pay 50% beyond the cost of the bounty to pay it off. It's under Contacts then Pilot's Federation.

repair and reboot restore's destroyed, not damaged modules to a few percent hull integrity by cannibalising intact modules and reducing their integrity.

So if both your drives are dead starting the reboot and repair sequence will strip integrity from life support, weapons, hardpoints, shields and your powerplant to repair your drives. It usually costs 5 to 10% for integrity from each module used and restores 1 to 4% integrity to each destroyed module.

As you've probably gathered its pretty much a last resort tactic and you should bug out back to the nearest station immediately after using it. Also all modules power down during the repair, so you have no control, life support, shields etc.

I once had to use it whilst on a collision course with a hostile anaconda. One of my best moments playing ED, but I wouldn't do it again for an A grade anaconda:)

how can oyu spot the selfdestruct menuitem without seeing the reboot and repair one?! anyway... Everything is already said about it

I appreciate all the help guys! Great feedback! Apparently I didn't read the repair/reboot due to my frustration and despair and went straight for the "shoot myself in the head" option.... Live and learn.
