Just got blown up by the Federal security service.


Basically. Was in an RES. Got attacked by a pirate (who showed as wanted). I fired on him first, admitedly, but he was wanted. So I got an assault fine of 50 credits or something. SO this federal security ship arrives and scans the area. Stupidly I went into silent running in the hope they wouldn't see me. They did, and shot me up whilst my shields were down and I was still attempting to escape. I should really have left the shields up, popped a couple of heatsinks and chuckered off if scanned.


SO. Thanks for that. I'm sure destroying my ship and costing me around a million credits was well worth it for a paulty fine for accidentally assaulting a pirate. It's officers like you that cause people to BECOME pirates, you know? Actually. I'll remember this next time i'm offered a fat paycheck to kill a bunch of authority vessels in your system.

If your target shows as wanted you don't get fined. If you have a fine the authorities don't shoot at you. You need a bounty for that. If this happened the way you say it did, you need to report two bugs to FD.

Well, I think that's what happened. It's also possible I made a mistake and shot up the wrong ship. OR my stupid turrets decided to shoot at something other than what I was shooting at.

Shouldn't have to wait for the NPC scan to complete if the NPC is actively shooting at me. If they're wanted, they're wanted and it's not assault.

Next time, just shoot the cop and jump out of the system for a few minutes.

When I used to haz-res farm, I simply attacked all authority ships on sight before fighting pirates. It was easier to kill them and get their unpredictable, nonsensical and occasionally idiotically lethal behaviour out of the way immediately than to deal with it at some random point in the future. I'm trying to think of a time when a system authority ship has ever actually helped me in game and I'm drawing blanks.

Gimbals are safer, imo. Turrets always get me a wanted status. lol.
