Well the hacking community has some fun

Had to be AFK for a week workwise and came back to check if the latest patches did in any way shape or form address any of the exploit issues. Unsurprisingly, they didn't, quite the contrary. The good folks using CheatEngine are having a blast ripping ED to pieces, knowing very well that Frontier's doing not much about it. Quote: 'their reaction on supposed hacks, very lenient'
So let me get this right: While Frontier's having bug issues left right and center, a handful of people without source have a ride with the engine, tweaking combat stats as required? That's telling. Did Frontier ever post something about the issue?

At least the reversing guys are having a good time. I wonder if that's the 'blaze your own trail' part? 'Elite:patcherous. Change your own bytes!'

The devs are aware of the issue and I don't think they are being "lenient" at all. Patient is more the word I would use. They have several bits of telemetry in the game for checking various things like spontaneous ship death and capturing exploits already. I think they are just quietly laying in wait while they re-tool some of their code to spot these hackers and when ready they will pull the trigger and release the banhammer. You will know when it happens because there will suddenly be a flood of posts like "OMG they banned me for no reason!!!11one".

I would remove mention of that utility by the way as you don't want to give anybody ideas.

Stopping hackers is practically impossible as no matter what you do there is always a way around it and those wanting an advantage in games are very tenacious when it comes to ways of obtaining them. No software (PunkBuster, XTrap, GameGuard etc.) is immune to hacks and those should not be relied upon for anything more than the first line of defence. Telemetry, metrics and observation should be your main line as no matter what tricks hackers pull they can't hide the fact they are causing things which fall outside the "norms" for the game. Once you know what oddities to look for and how to be absolutely sure it is the result of a hack you can instaban. Once word gets around that is happening you will find the number of people willing to risk their £40 account will reduce dramatically.

I'm sure FD are getting nice, long log files to absolutely identify who's fooling around. In these litigious days you don't want to go banning innocents by mistake; after all FD are based in a country that actually has Consumer Rights protection - so you want to be very sure (ie, stand up in court sure) that you have the evidence you need.

They are aware about people who are cheating. They will be banned - and then will complain how the hell that happened. Detect who cheated is easy. Make it happen so people don't repeat that is hard.
