Oh I know your feeling buddy, I have more or less 1600 hours of playing right now, I've been to Sag A*, traveled a lot, never ran out of fuel..
Then yesterday, I was in my FDL, jumphonking to get a commodities for the Engineers, and I actually ran out of fuel.. I felt idiot, I called the fuel rats for the first time and damn it was cool and quick, I don't regret it at the end, it's a must do in a Commander's life.

The time I called the rats resulted in an epic moment. Two rats showed up in large ships and when they had gotten a fair amount of fuel into my ship and I was powering everything back up, an NPC showed up to attack me and started trash talking. The rats took out the NPC an short order.
That's a shame. We have rats out there.
Have to say....no shame in sending the Ratsignal. Great bunch of CMDRs with a much needed role. Can be shameful not plotting your route properly sans fuel scoop.
Was helped last eve by a very prompt response only 1 system away from fuel, a favour that will be returned some day when the call goes out!
Now have fuel scoop so I can make the trip across the Arietis/pleiadies sector. Fly safe & smart CMDRs!!

I recently ran out of fuel for the very first time while exploring a landable planet with a friend in my Courier. Unfortunately being 4 miles above the surface when the engine died didn't leave much time for things like sending signals, so I just sorta had to kick back and experience the death-plummet.
