Well - What NOW?

...been playing ED now for 2+ years. Regularly. Sometimes 8+ hours a day on the weekend and a couple of hours late evenings during the week. Most played game ever owned except for Sword of the Samurai (late 80's early 90's - I forget - and Sid Meirer's Pirates). It's fair to say that during all that time I always found something interesting to do when playing ED.

BUT! Now I'm at a loss. Almost bored to tears with it. I got so bored that I even tried <gag> mining and that just made it worse (didn't play ED for over a week after that) - to you guys that are miners and love it - respect! Someone's gotta do it one supposes - just not me.

So for anyone with a bit more imagination than I, feel free to jump right in to the deep end and help me out to rekindle the flame.

Just so no time is wasted on suggestions for stuff I've already done here's my ED list of been there done that...

1. Bounty Hunter - #1 job I've spent the most time on though it's only #2 for revenue. 2nd most fun activity. (includes combat zones)
2. Trader - without using EDDB or ETN for help. seems like it would be a grind but I actually enjoyed using the built in trade tools, hunting down good trade routes and using it as a way to go where ever the wind blew. #3 Revenue maker.
3. Trader - using EDDB and ETN. Same as 2 but #1 Revenue maker (just barely).
4. Smuggler - on the edge of my seat tension builder. Mucho fun - usually too intense and sometimes too costly to do for long. #1 for sheer excitement and fun.
5. Power Play - screw power play - just grind for low pay. The only thing more boring was mining. I did however greatly enjoy sending the faction leader lackies the bosses sent after me when I quit their stupid factions to meet their maker. I even broke my hard rule that if there ain't no money in it then don't waste time or otherwise doing it to take the silly bastages out.
6. Explorer - right up there with mining for sheer grind and boredom - not quite but close.
7. Assassin - not often but occassionally if the price was right... Good for an occasional break from what ever else I'm doing at the time.
8. Slave trading - made me feel dirty after the 1st time I did it - no price will get me to do it again - well - maybe for 50+ million - then again that's never gonna happen so lets stick with never.
9. Wipe 'em all out missions. Did one. Not time/money efficient and then it was against Pirates (I got nothing agin' pirates mind you - but hey they chose the job not me and they must accept the risk that goes with it).
10. Grave Robber/Garbage Picker - Unidentified Signal Source Investigator - sometimes interesting, sometimes a money maker if there's bad guys lurking (gotta love those traps) necessary on occassion and always boring picking up the trash.
11. Hauling Sheep - errrrr. Passengers - surpisingly I actually enjoy this. The role play opportunities while doing this are unlimited - don't believe me just ask Annie my stewardess (YEP - I called her a STEWARDESS - deal with it).

So that's pretty much...

OH! Wait - I also tried mining. Kitted out my Python to do it. Why anyone would choose mining as a normal activity in the ED universe is just beyond me. I got so bored that after a while I rammed a 'roid just to see how many ship shield rings would go away if I hit one full speed ahead (took out just one - surpised me). Hunt and peck typing is how I'd describe it or maybe looking for the needle in a haystack and you've got to search for hours on end to find the golden nugget or diamond in the rough. I'd sooner buy lottery tickets (if ED had a lottery - oh wait - it does - it's called mining). Bah! Mining! Stupid and boring activity. GEEEEEEZ!

So what's left? Or how to reenergize and make interesting that which has already been done?

Have you filled your flagship with engineering mods to the brim? Those are gonna come in handy for close encounters with the A L I E N S..
Otherwise I'd take a break, and play when I want to chill out

When was the last time you piloted a small ship? If you haven't recently, try combat in a Viper or build a jack-of-all-trades Cobra. Big game hunting in an Eagle is thrilling. Granted, it's more of the same, but may offer a different challenge. I don't know your history but I assume it's likely that many people who have played for more than 2 years have not yet tried all of the ships that were added post-release. Also, learning to fly always FAoff made even the most mundane of tasks at least moderately engaging for me.

Man, every game soon or late have the same problem, play something else for a while and then come back, you didn't marry ED LOL, play other games when bored of ED, then come back later, there is no game on Earth that doesn't have this issue, that's why most people play many games, not just one 8 hours .

That favorite Planetside base you have to land on and grab some nice missions. Or any Planetside landable base....Attack it!

Take a break for some time or until the next patch. No reason to force yourself to play through a burn out.

Take a break and come back refreshed when 2.3 goes live? Forcing yourself to keep playing something when it's boring you is a surefire way to end up never playing it again.

I finally gave in to the inevitable and have gotten to L5 with the gal who does FSD's and the Dweller. L3 with most of the rest. But the grind is just too much. I hate it. Engineers are just plain stupid. Backyard mechanic implementation of guys who can understand the technology that achieved FTL but can't add 2 + 2 together and get 4 twice in a row.

Nice idea, though.

I fly an Asp Explorer regularly to haul passengers, smuggle, and bounty hunt in RES (high) tried that with the Asp in a RES (haz) once. Lasted about 3 minutes. Other wise I'm flyin' a FDL or Python when necessary because the Asp just can't handle it.

I do have fond memories of my Cobra MK3 and getting one and upgrading it is a good idea. I may just give that a go.

Thanks!

It isn't as bad when you know where to look for materials, and they drop in threes. I actually quite enjoyed the hunt for upgrades

Engineers is almost an activity within itself. Having bought and engineered 11 ships and unlocked all but 4 engineers (I'm working on those), it's kind of fun because it allows builds you couldn't do without it (I'm currently running a Viper 3 with 2 med plasmas and 2 small pulses, which would have been really difficult or impossible without engineers). Anyway, 2 years is pretty good. I think you've got you money's worth. Take a break, play another game for a while and come back.

exactly. the ole python is now more versatile than ever - 440 boost speed and 30 lyrs range, packing modded beam lasers and multicannons. yes please! working on unlocking the last tier of engineers as well
