Someone suggested going back to a smaller ship, so I bought a Cobra Mk3. Set it up as a smuggler that could fight back. Used to be my favorite ship. Fond memories of the months I spent flying it.

Spent the better part of Sunday (4 or 5 hours) making about 1.5M credits and almost dying once out of a bunch of combat incidents (mostly because where I was there weren't a lot of smuggling missions available - could have gone out scavenging I guess but that wouldn't have earned me even close to 1.5M).

Wasn't a bad time - there was some fun and excitement but no more than I have in my FDL, Python or Asp Exp.

One supposes the situation is much like driving a Volkswagon Beetle and graduating to a Ferrari or Jaguar. Seems unlikely one would ever go back to the Beetle unless out of sheer necessity and then it wouldn't be a pleasure at all.

Recently did this myself. Was getting a bit bored running trade routes in my 'Conda, so bought a Viper IV and fitted it for combat/interdictions. Been doing pirate assassinations, investigating USS's, dropping into combat zones, interdicting wanted NPC's & scouting/planetary scan missions. Been having a blast. It's much more challenging than combat in my big ship and going against something larger takes much more finesse and lasts longer than just "going at 'em" in my 'Conda. Also gave me a reason to visit engineers again to upgrade my Viper's equipment. Finally, the replacement cost is practically inconsequential -- less than the pay-out for a single mission -- so I don't mind taking risks with it. Cheers!

I'll second the VR suggestion. I was taking regular breaks from the game, but have still managed to log over 1k hours in it. Recently, the breaks were happening faster and lasting longer, and then I got me a DK2. Never was big on combat before, but holy cow--combat is *incredible* in VR.

I will definitely still tire of it--there's only so much to do, and little of it is truly engaging, but I still like to fly space ships. And I REALLY like flying them in VR.

Just quit already, seems you have done what you like and have nothing else to offer Elite. There is nothing anyone can post on the forums that will give you the spark you lack or teach you how to enjoy your time in game. Once you go to the forums looking for your inner commander's drive for adventure you have already lost.

Just go now before it gets even more bleak, leave while you still have some dignity.
