went afk, all modules disabled, stuck in res with oxygen running out

I went afk after entering a high intensity RES with my Fer-De-Lance that has no cargo racks. It was an very empty RES. I killed 1-2 wanted small fries then stopped my engines and went afk. When I came back I saw that all my modules were disabled and oxygen was running out. I just entered the system and thus do not have a hostile reputation with an of the factions nor do I have any sort of bounty. After trying to power off then on modules, shutting down nonessential modules, retracting weapons, logging out then back in, I am stuck at the spot unable to move with 0:19 seconds of oxygen left. I am aware that in rare cases pirates will attack you regardless of whether you have cargo or not but the thing is I have 100% in hull and modules with no red contacts on radar. Not even security vessels.

I can't pay the insurance cost because I just had enough to buy this FDL, lost a type 9 afking after press launch in a station a while ago (most unfortunate way to lose 80 million), and spent a ton of credits just to pay the 10x more expensive hull repair bill.

Can someone tell me what in the Milky Way happened to me? Is it my fault or not? I do not want to log in right now because I will suffocate in 19 seconds.

Sounds like you might have run out of fuel?

*never mind* , does sound like you ran out of fuel or somehow your power plant was turned off...

Ships still use fuel when idling, x many tons of fuel per hour.
Sounds like you have run out of fuel if you have no damage.

I doubt 19 seconds is long enough for anyone to come to your aid sorry.

You left port without enough to pay for insurance, that's what happened.

Well, hate to say it but that's your _second_ lesson then about afk.

If you really are at 100% hull and modules, you should report this in the bugs forum, they can fix it up - if nothing else, by bumping up your creds so you can pay for the insurance.

19 seconds isn't enough time, but you could have powered down all non essential modules and done a full system reboot which normally lets you use your thrusters again. Res's have murderers who will fire on you for no reason. Also, never go AFK in elite dangerous, takes 2 seconds to exit to menu and will avoid you a lot of headaches.

Sorry for your predicament but I don't think there's anything you can do with 19 seconds of oxygen.

Its possible you suffered a similar bug I had where it would set modules priority to 5 for no reason so when you deploy hardpoints all modules go offline
-
Eiether that or your power plant was damaged and reduced your maximum power, all I can suggest it quickly going to modules and change life support to priority 1 and anything else to priority 5, that will buy you some time to work our how to reach the nearest station, 19 seconds should be enough time to do that
-
But if your life support is at 0% I'm afraid your pretty
much dead at this point as you won't even be able to reboot and repair in time

Does running out of fuel cause all your modules to shut down? BTW I am in normal space, not supercruise + I have a C4 fuel scoop so I doubt I'd run out of fuel, that thing fills up an 8 ton tank fast.

.....Yes, once your ability to power your powerplant is exhausted, everything that your powerplant is providing power to is shut off.

Yes, no fuel no power, no power modules shut down.
Fuel is used by the power plant at all times when outside a dock, be it normal space or super cruise.
Next time you aren't in a life and death situation Look down on the right hand side and see your usage in tons of fuel per hour

A fully equipped FDL might use quite a bit

That helps me in that once I enter a station, I fly by the star really close on my way to my destination. During this time period I fill up a good portion of my fuel tank being 8 tons.

Why the hell is this game so little documented? There are so many small ways you can die it's just ridiculous. Once you buy the game you're thrown into a random station with no tutorial. The actual tutorial doesn't explain crap.

Five and a hour hours.

Ultimately OP, you were very, very, very, VERY silly going AFK overnight in a ship you could not pay for. You got what you deserve.

I have a question to the OP: why in a multiplayer game you go afk in a hostile zone? And on top on that without insurance? My personal rule is when i undock my ship i consider it's already lost and i am fully prepared for that. On the other hand i cannot see how you can be saved in under 19 seconds even with new refuel limpets.

There is an actual manual to the game. The link is in the game laucher.

I can't understand how the op has had the money to buy a T9 and an Fdl and doesn't know this stuff?

Some people learn the hard lessons only later in the game. I often advocate people do the silly stuff early on, get it out of their system while it doesn't hurt so much.

But yeah, going AFK in a high risk area, without insurance... OP was just asking for something bad to happen. I mean, if it wasn't fuel, it could have been an NPC Anaconda that came over and decided to boil him up. He would have died. Hell, if he was AFK long enough, almost anything could have taken him down. NPCs can be persistent.
