this entire engineer want/need list with odyssey is a joke, esp. so with the quantities
imo, the ship engineers were not this bad
i think the devs over thought the odyssey engineers ... did they try to make it harder than ship engineers?
i think they made it pretty boring!
I think it's easy to forget that a single mod requires a ton of mats if you want g5 for your ship. That's just one module of several and just one ship too. Mat gathering in Horizons is not any more engaging.
I maintain that Odyssey is way less demanding. And I'm still enjoying it too.
These mods (above) are the hardest but they're not common. Most mods are 2/3 data and 2/3 assets (so 2 of one and 3 of the other). Like, an hour or so tops to get what you need. And all the data is obtainable via missions (and all assets while doing most missions).
Upgrading to G5 does take time due to mi, schematic and gas bottlenecks. And the whole permanent mod thing is horrid. But the act of engineering?
I love it. So much more fun than 95% of what Horizons asks you to do for upgrades. It goes like this:
1) want an upgrade
2) check requirements
3) check stock
4) note you've got most of it already
5) trade assets a bit or take note to loot the relevant asset type to get enough to trade
6) do a few missions for the data and assets
Done.
No HGEs, pharmaceutical isolators. No MEF farming. No military ships, trade ships or scanning beacons until you randomly get what you need.
It's very focused. Some rng sure. Just way less than Horizons. Most importantly, there's no mystery. Every item can be obtained simply by doing missions and scavenging.
Just need fdev to add mats looted from bodies.
