Were you Elite?

I played primarily on my ZX Spectrum. I made it to Deadly, but not Elite.

Also I tended to use Mining lasers for combat. No real energy drain and no overheating issues and it was two hits to kill a light fighter up to six for a Python.

Made it to Elite on a mission to destroy a Thargoid; longest fight I ever had. BBC Micro Elite.

Since I am like my username here, no, never made it. Didn't really care, either, though, I just flew around, explored, traded and did the odd mission or delivery and stuff. :D

Mostly player Frontier: Elite 2, by the way.

I was Elite in Frontier, but never in Elite (was too young, and didn't play it enough) or First Encounters.

No, made Deadly on the C64 in Elite and Dangerous on the Amiga in Frontier (Frontier didn't grip me in the same way Elite did).

On original Elite i got to Dangerous or Deadly, cant remember.

On Frontier i got to Elite.

Using Panther Clipper I had so many shields(over 300tons) that i used to let the enemy ships just smash into me, My shields would go down from 100% to 97% then quickly recharge.

I was invincible unless on the very very rare occassion that i came across a imperial courier with a 100mw beam laser on the front which killed me and my shields in around 5 seconds.

I only ever seen that happen though 2 times in about 700hrs of play or more.

Using the above technique made it easier to get to Elite Status, Just go to an anarchic system, forward time, get some enemies, forward time again and bang you got 4 kills, rinse and repeat.

I never got to Elite rank in any version of the Elite game

Didn't get there in FE2 either, but I did make it in FFE. I remember leaping out of my chair and dancing around the room - and the cat almost dying of fright :D

I played Elite on the Acorn A3000 and managed to get a rating of 'Dangerous'. I tried to improve on this for ages but never managed it. I think this was because I always panicked and died when ambushed by Thargoids (seemed to be hundreds of them!). I sometimes wondered if there was a special mission I had to complete. I had loads of fun.

Small hint if I may - get yourself a mission to photograph/nuke a military installation, and land in front of the hangar, with 2x 20MW lasers in your turrets. Terrible spawn mayhem ensues. Usually waited until "Right on Commander" message and lifted off, took a pic/launched the missile and went home. Just be careful - you can't let any of the military craft smash into you, otherwise due to a bug you will explode on lift off (after a collision your speedometer reads out a few thousand km/h, even though you're firmly on the ground. When you hit liftoff, your actual speed all of a sudden becomes those few thousand km/h and you crash into the terrain immediately).

Deadly on Speccy and fast approaching Deadly on Oolite which is considerably faster than on the Speccy due to its vastly greater population of ships.

I got to Deadly but not Elite.

I kept on restarting as I learned more about the game. I do that with all the games I play. I try six or seven dry runs, some lasting ages, and then play for real.

Hi all,

I can not remember what my Spectrum rank was, but I did not play it that much on the Spectrum.

On the PC (Elite Plus) I got to Elite, then one more mission (find a cloaked ship) and I got Archangel, but I guess that was different to the original versions.

Frontier, don't want to talk about it ;)

Alan.

I made it to 'deadly' on the original BBC B Elite, then again on the BBC Master then again on ARC Elite!

I'm also currently on 'deadly' in Oolite but haven't played that for sometime. I may get going again though while I wait for ED.

I did make it to Elite on an early PC version but I believe the amount of kills needed was far less than other versions. Can anyone confirm that?

I got to Deadly on the Commodore 64 version of Elite but I managed to somehow knacker the tape with all my saves.

I started again and got back to Competent or Dangerous...

Made Elite on an MSX (yes I know I was one of the 8 people who bought one of them!)

Dangerous on Frontier
