What 2.2 means for small craft pilots

When you're flying small or midsize crafts (I fly Vulture for bounty hunting and Cobra Mk3 for Multi Purpose things), 2.2 does not seem add fun to the game. The ship launched fighters are not available for you and slow down your progress even more as your bounty targets got a lot tougher now. The tourist missions.. Well, I didn't find any mental access to it. Bought a 1st class cabin for the Cobra, took a VIP.. Wanted to give me lousy 270k for two destinations, one of which was 35 hops away... ok, took it. Got attacked after 15 hops (the tourist was declared prone to attacks), got some scratches, he wants to leave at the next station.

Really, for 270k? For this tiny bit of rep with a minor faction that ist 35 hops away? Don't get it. Can someone explain me what this is all about?

Mission payouts are extremely wonky at the moment, I suspect it's due to the way they nerfed the game logic so places like Sothis wouldn't be crazy credit-mines.

I suggest you mod up your engines and FSD though, the Cobra is an incredible speedster with an excellent jumprange already, and Engineers really turns it up to eleven.

1) Get your local rep up
2) Do something
3) Enjoy your new riches

I love flying small ships, and 2.2 is a grand update for them. Ignoring the 'cr/hr=fun' fallacy: passenger missions now allow you to earn millions of credits per hour in a hauler if you want to. It just takes time for people to understand how the BGS/mission system actually works.

Er.. you can see (just not accept) missions you don't have reputation for, including the rewards, and those are pretty awful as well.

Okay, there is no profit anywhere at all. Everyone who is earning millions and millions is just lying to egg you on.[rolleyes]

Mission payouts scale with faction rep. Get in a faction's goodbooks and watch the credits roll in.

Yes, but for the tourist mission this generally means that you have dozens of compartments or do even more jumps. Already have the class A jump drive on my cobra, and no cargo space, to reduce weight. What's the fun with jumping 35 times? How often for 1.5M credits?

Two jumps for 3.4 million is what I am averaging, in a DBE. Would have been three in a Hauler. Probably four in a Cobra.

So what is the typical travel distance for tourist missions you got offered? Here I've only available some that go halfway through the galaxy. I was seriously with 35 jumps (efficient route) and somewhere above 20 for speed - requiring to fuel up or scoop - not that much faster.

There are multiple ways to gain rep with a faction. Mix it up and don't just focus on one thing.

For instance, 4mcr in bounties or combat bonds turned in will get you allied with a faction. Around 1mcr will get you friendly. Additionally, there are multiple passenger mission types, many of which will pay much, much better when you have some social capital with the faction.

There is no 'typical' distance, at least not in a meaningfull way. You have a few different templates, ranging from +-10LY to +-22000LY. The missions I did were a little below 50LY, starting at Sol. Missions being offered depend on the economy type, political type and current status. As with all things, make sure to find the right place to do what you want to do. :)

I think it would have been cool to pick up a hitch hiker or too. Planet destruction and all that.
Maybe tourist missions could be more "I'll give you 2000 now, and 10 when we reach Alderan".
Then if the bum doesn't pay you can jet him into the sun or something, or maybe into slavery.
But I also like the idea of a tourist that just wants to see the sights on the way to Beagle Point.
If she was saucy and slightly chatty then who knows.

Seen a "sight seeing" worth nearly 50 mill.. But they wanted to go to the other side of the galaxy. Some 30,000ly away..

What happens when you get there. Does the passenger
just get dropped off at the nearest planet?

There is more to it than just the missions listed there. When you gain rep with a minor faction, the NPC you interact with can change, and a new set of "better" missions can appear.

I saw this in action recently. I started working for a minor unaligned faction because it was the only one with a decent set of missions attached, and there was a lucrative medicines-to-outbreak route involved. As a feudal society my contact was initially something like a Squire. After a few days, I think when I became friendly with them, the contact changed to a Baroness along with a different set of missions and better payouts.

DBOBE did discuss this in the recent interviews - the way he modelled it, as your character is initially seen as an itinerant wanderer the locals have no real trust in you. As you do work for them, repeatedly, trust builds up along with your reputation and they will open up better opportunities for you.

Yeah, you realize that when you are working with a Prospect Clucky McBlueface that they aren't even full members of the gang yet. You don't start working for the boss, you have to earn that.

Exactly! Local rep plus boom tourism station is straight up cash. Two jumps -> 2.5M!!!

The fun is in navigating FTL through the galaxy via hyperjumps. That is the fun. You are talking about the fun part right there.

Considering that one of the core mechanics of the game is navigation between star systems via hyperjumps, you might be playing the wrong game, bro.

Well, actually. If all new content just requires me to hit "j" 35 times for the least bit of progress. Not that there'd be anything else to do in between (and don't delay, the tourist said...)

Well did you ACTUALLY try that with 2.2? I mean the rank up a minor faction part? For me, this now simply doesnt work no more since I barely get a mission offered by an unknown minor faction in a new part of the galaxy. 0/7 missions for me. 5 unavailable because I am not yet cortially repd, 2 because they require 68 storage...Same for tourist missions. Something really got f'd up (frontiered up) here today.

The exact same two ships I currently fly.....and I am having an absolute *blast*. Lots of high paying salvage missions and missions where you buy stuff and bring it back to the faction. I picked up over 500,000 credits from a few passenger missions, all within about 30Ly of each other......though one was a bit hairy due to the fact that they were a Criminal, with people coming after them to boot. I took an assassination mission worth about 600,000 Cr, where the target was in an FdL. I took the sucker down, but not until he get me down to 6% hull!

That said, after my Beta experiences, I have decided that I *really* want to buy a Keelback to add to my fleet. It has had a number of lovely improvements, and can also carry SLF's and Passengers.

Words to live by, Commander. I try to ensure that I never do the same mission twice in a row-if I can help it.

I did 2 missions for the Alioth Independants, & that got me to Cordial with them.
