What 8 animals would you include in a Threatened species pack?

Great list - I like the geographic and taxonomic variety.... I can’t think of a good North American representative - most endangered species in NA seem to be subspecies, which aren’t very different from the broader species, which isn’t threatened (I prefer animals added in at the species level unless there’s a fairly significant visual and/or behavioural difference among subspecies), or are too small to be habitat species.

Which animals aren’t endangered in this mad world? I mean my country becomes insane because a natural wolf is back and kills 2 sheep... then by coincidence the wolf turns out dead on the road. China kills and eats any living thing, tourism is a plague which turns beautiful animal rich jungles (especially in South America and Polynesia) into hotel-filled ugly plastic places where no animal can live, I think the endangered pack can use every animal by now! But of course it needs the Markhor and Maned Wolf!

  • scimitar-horned oryx (EW - extinct in the wild)
  • saiga antelope (CR - critically endangered)
  • przewalski's horse (EN - previously extinct in the wild; now endangered)
  • iberian lynx (CR - critically endangered)
  • amur leopard (CR - critically endangered)
  • père david's deer (EW - extinct in the wild)
  • black rhinoceros (CR - critically endangered)
  • tasmanian devil (EN - endangered; and numbers decreasing)

I don't really care about the boxes...maybe a panamanian golden frog (EW extinct in the wild); and possibly last sighted in the BBC television program Life in cold Blood) but they already have a little yellow frog from south america in the game

birds would be cool too, california condors or spixs macaws are both good options

Black rhino
Przewalski horse
Amur leopard
Somali wild
Scimitar oryx
Addax
Père David’s deer

Fiji iguana

This list is literally my dream pack!!! The Black Rhino, Przewalkski's Wild Horse, Amur Leopard and Pere David's Deer are the best on the list but love all of them. I would probably prefer the Goodfellow's Tree Kangaroo (Endangered) instead of the Somali Wild Ass just for some more variation (and they are awesome). I would also say Pygmy Three Toed Sloth (Critically Endangered and, seriously, google it, it's sooooooo cute), instead of either the addax or scimitar oryx but since no three toed sloth has ever bred in (or, to my knowledge, survived) captivity I don't think the game will ever add them and if we ever do get a sloth (which I don't expect we will) it is more likely to be one of the more common two-toed subspecies.

Please make this pack Frontier, pretty please 🙏🙏🙏 (literally on hands and knees begging lol :ROFLMAO:)

7 Habitat species, 1 exhibit, assume no aviary species.

1. Arctic fox
2. Black rhino or another rhino subspecies (greater one horned or white possibly)
3. Indri lemur
4.. Saola
5. Sloth (I really don’t care which one, give me ALL the sloths!)
6. Swift fox
7. Tree kangaroo (again, I don’t care which one. I want them all)
8. (Exhibit) Monarch butterfly. Preferably I would like butterflies/birds for a walkthrough aviary system-type thing, but I feel like they would be fine for just an exhibit

1 Pied Tamarin (CR)
2 Mexican Prairie Dog (EN)
3 Persian fallow deer (EN)
4 Balkan lynx (CR)
5 Matschie's Tree Kangaroo (EN)
6 Roloway monkey (CR)
7 Chacoan Peccary (EN)
8. La Gomera Giant Lizard [Exhibit] (CR)

Picking something else than my other lists.

(greater one horned)
We already have that in the game. The 'greater one-horned rhinoceros' is just another name for the Indian rhinoceros.

For me it would be;
  • Iberian lynx.
  • Pere David's deer.
  • Tasmanian devil.
  • Sumatran rhinoceros.
  • Geoffroy's/Black-handed spider monkey.
  • Scimitar-horned oryx.
  • Chinese alligator.
  • Fiji banded iguana (E).

Decent enough mix I think. I picked the Sumatran rhinoceros rather than the black rhinoceros because I think that will still come in an African Animals Pack or something (either that or the white, but I suspect the black).

All these species are Critically Endangered or extinct in the wild.

Black rhino (Diceros bicornis)
Saiga antelope (Saiga tatarica)
Przewalski's wild horse (Equus przewalskii)
Addax (Addax nasomaculatus)
Scimitar-horned oryx (Oryx dammah)
Celebes crested macaque (Macaca nigra)
Tamaraw (Bubalus mindorensis)
Dama gazelle (Nanger dama ruficollis)
Golden mantled tree kangaroo (Dendrolagus pulcherrimus)

My eight animals for a threatened species pack (I've mentioned it elsewhere, but will include reasoning for each species here). All have been chosen because of the roles zoos have played in their conservation:

1. Alpine ibex Capra ibex - Least Concern (Europe): At the beginning of the 19th century around 100 Alpine ibex remained; some fawns taken into zoos in Switzerland allowed one of the longest running and most successful reintroduction projects ever, which has now resulted in a wild population of over 40,000.
2. Coquerel's sifaka Propithecus coquereli - Critically Endangered (Africa): Lemurs are one of the most endangered groups of mammals on the planet and breeding programmes are increasingly considered vital for their future survival.
3. Eastern black rhinoceros Diceros bicornis michaeli - Critically Endangered (Africa): Recently, Eastern black rhinoceroses from zoos in Europe were reintroduced to Rwanda where they had been driven to extinction 10 years previously.
4. Hawaiian goose Branta sandvicensis - Vulnerable (North America? Not sure what continent Hawaii falls under): In 1952 there were only 30 Hawaiian geese left; a successful breeding and reintroduction programme at a British wildfowl park meant that, 50 years later, there were over 2,000 in the wild.
5. Owston's civet Chrotogale owstoni - Endangered (Asia): A recent conference about the conservation of this small carnivore found that the current captive breeding programme is critical for saving them from extinction, with recommendations for more zoos to get involved.
6. Persian leopard Panthera pardus saxicolor - Endangered (Asia): While the Amur leopard is the rarer subspecies, the Persian leopard is being reintroduced to the wild in part of western Russia using zoo-bred animals.
7. Vietnamese sika deer Cervus nippon pseudaxis - Extinct in the Wild (Asia): Not only are these extinct in the wild, but the captive populations in Vietnam are still attacked by poachers; there is a large and much safer captive population in zoos across Europe.
Exhibit. Mountain chicken Leptodactylus fallax - Critically Endangered (North America? I think that's what the Caribbean Islands fall under): An increasing number of zoos are breeding these frogs and recently a number of them were released into a disease-safe semi-wild enclosure on their native Montserrat.

-Coquerel's Sifaka
-Przewalski Wild Horse
-Black Rhinoceros
-Amur Leopard
-Scimitar Horned Oryx
-Japanese Red Crowned Crane
-Tasmanian Devil
-Axolotl ( E )

Other Endangered Animals I would include in different packs : Iberian Lynx, Golden Snub Nosed Monkey and Peere's David Deer

My eight animals for a threatened species pack

  1. Addax (Addax nasomaculatus) - [Critically Endangered]
  2. Saiga antelope (Saiga tatarica) - [Crirically Endangered]
  3. Somali wild donkey (Equus africanus somaliensis) - [Critically Endangered] or Persian onager (Equus hemionus onager) - [Endangered]. I prefer the Somali wild donkey
  4. Himalayan wolf (Canis himalayensis ) - [Critically Endangered]. Recent studies have estimated the population to be only 350 individuals. It is imperative that these animals be protected because they represent the oldest lineage of any current species of wolves on the planet. This species is estimated to be 800,000 years old which is twice what the North American gray wolf is 400,000 years old.
  5. Leatherback sea turtle (Dermochelys coriacea) - [Vulnerable]. The specialists estimate that it could disappear completely in the next 30 years.
  6. Chinese giant salamander (Andrias davidianus) - [Critically Endangered]. The largest salamander in the world and has existed on Earth for about 350 million years. Unfortunately, this wonderful amphibian, almost two meters long, is rapidly disappearing as a result of its fishing for human consumption. Less than 2,000 individuals remain.
  7. Yangtze giant softshell turtle (Rafetus swinhoei) - [Critically Endangered]. This species is in very serious danger of extinction. Only one elderly male remains in captivity in China; and two more specimens, whose sex is unknown, in Vietnam.
In January 2021, a female of the species, the only known living one, was found in Dong Mo Lake in Vietnam. It is hoped that it can reproduce with a male conserved in the Chinese zoo in Suzhou to recover the species.
  8. Black-footed ferret (Mustela nigripes) - [Endangered]

1) Przewalski Wild Horse. Should be a must. I mean, in a geographic based pack I don't think they would be included, after the SE Asia pack we could rule out the "whole Asia pack", so there are two options: cold Asia of Eurasia. But I think the most probable scenario is that we get them in a pack like this.
2) Wisent or European Bison. I know we have the American bison in game, but I've always loved the European one, and I think that their recovery story is really inspiring: not so many years ago thy were hunted to extinction in the wild and now they are ranked as near threatened. And, although tecnically they are no longer a threatened species, due to their reduced current wild range and their history they should be here. Another option would be the black rhino, as I'm suppossing we would have finally got the white rhino in an African pack, so adding the black rhino here would be awesome as well.
3) Scimitar Horned Oryx. An extint in the wild antelope, should be in this pack. And even we already have an oryx species, I think that this one is really distinctive. Also, it has been reintroduced into the wild, I think a couple of herds so far, so slightly recovering. As an alternative, another extint in the wild hoofed animal, the Pere David's Deer, which has also been reintroduced in the wild.
4) Amur Leopard. I've always been fascinated with this subspecies of leopard, with leopards in general as well, but the rarity of the Amur leopard is fascinating for me. In 2007, just 14 years ago, they were estimated less than 30 wild individues, and in 2019 they were already aroung 90, but even with that increase they are one of the most, if not the most, rare cat in the world, and they should be included here.
5) Iberian Lynx. From one of the rarest cat in the world in the Amur leopard to another of the rarest cat here. They are a symbol for conservation. Growing up I'v always heard stories about this lynx, about the efforts and it seems that were are seeing some success finally, as their numbers are getting close to a thousand individuals.
6) Coquerel's Sifaka. Lemurs are one the most endangered primates in the world, and not only some species, every lemur is threatened by deforestation and poaching. Also, the lemurs we have in game are way different from the sifaka, which would requiry some unique animations, such as the kind of jumping they do in the ground, so I think they would be really cool in game. They could also go with the Verreaux's sifaka.
7) Grey Crowned Crane. And finally some bird representation. There are many species of bird that could be in this spot: the Spix macaw, the Bali myna, etc., but they would be aviary bird, so going with ground-dwelling bird, I go with the African grey crowned crane, which is endangered and a really beautiful looking bird, as well as really common in zoos.
8) Fiji Crested Iguana. For the exhibit animal I choose one of the most beautiful reptiles I've ever seen. I just don't know why but the colors of this iguana are awesome and I really love them. They are critically endangered as well. Another opction would be the axolotl, to give some representation to the Americas, because I've just realised I haven't include any animal from South or North America.

1. Black Rhinoceros (Diceros bicornis) [CR] - This is under the assumption that the inevitable African Animal Pack would have the White Rhinoceros, but I think we should have both.
2. Coquerel's Sifaka (Propithecus coquereli) [CR] - Some other people in this forum summed up this choice pretty well already.
3. Iberian Lynx (Lynx pardinus) [EN] - I don't see a European Animal Pack honestly, so I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the more popular choices make it into other pack concepts. This is one of them.
4. Przewalski's Wild Horse (Equus ferus przewalskii) [EN] - Almost every species in the Equus genus is a valid candidate for this pack, but this one is the most popular and has a more extensive conservational history iirc.
5. Red-Crowned Crane (Grus japonensis) [EN] - One of the more popular ground bird picks, they're pretty cool.
6. Scimitar-Horned Oryx (Oryx dammah) [EW] - This pack's "clone" animal. However, I do hope they change it a decent bit from the Gemsbok, specifically in the face and DEFINITELY in the horns.
7. Tasmanian Devil (Sarcophilus harrisii) [EN] - The Tasmanian Devil probably should've of been in the Australia Pack over the Dingo imo, but they could be saving it for a pack like this (I ain't complaining, I need both to make an accurate Aussie zoo).
E. Wyoming Toad (Anaxyrus baxteri) [EW] - Amphibians are currently experiencing a global extinction crisis, so there were many, MANY options (some honourable mentions include the Panamanian Golden Frog, Mountain Chicken and the Southern Corroboree Frog). I chose the Wyoming Toad to rep North America, get a toad rep (they're different to frogs), and to get another Extinct in the Wild animal.

I would go with:

1. Tasmanian Devil
2. Przewalski Wild Horse
3. Lar Gibbon or Crested Gibbon
4. Brown Kiwi (vulnerable, but alot of effort goes into preserving)
5. Markhor
6. Green sea turtle
7. Addax
Exhibit: Giant Chinese Salamander - its big enough to be habitat animal, but could be done via larger exhibits

I would switch the Green Sea Turtle with the fossa and the addax with the blackbuck, but otherwise awesome pack!
