What a rush!

So there I was in a Res having my way in my vulture with a string of condos. I figure it's time to go cash in but one more pops up and only has 18 % left.... I'm in bad shape with shields down but figure I can take him and then head back.... Well I took him but had a hole in the canopy. A first for me so I figured I was toast. Decided to try SC to the nearest station.... Had about 3 minutes of oxygen left.... Jumped out of SC with 1.5 minutes.... The Frick in station is turning where I can't tell where the opening is..... 45 seconds left.. Decide to boost to the spot that looks like the opening... Turn up and there it is... 30 seconds left... Ask for docking and enter it with 18 seconds... Once I was inside I was out of trouble... Lesson learned about life support... Went and upgraded mine to support 10 minutes 😀

Hattip for next time, if you nav lock the station, then contact lock (yes they are different) the station will have giant arrows on it pointing you to the face with the mail slot.

Another tip, a station always spins counter clockwise when you're facing the airlock. Run around so that the top edge is moving to the left.

someone made a diagram somewhere. Credit to that someone.

Another tip - the stations rotate on an axis that runs through the entrance. If you can work out which sides they are, the corners of the entrance side have green lights, and the corners of the back side have red lights.

Another tip when in supercruise approach a station with the planet it is orbiting directly behind you, when you come out of supercruise you will be facing the entrance to the station or pretty close to it.

To target the station, just tap "next target" as soon as you're within 5km. Doesn't matter which way you're facing. Default mapping is "G". The station is the only thing big enough to show up on your scanner, so will always be the only target in range. It's somewhat useful with outposts too in the dark. Hit the totally unused "3" key (zoom to scanner or whatever it is) and you can see the layout of the outpost. :)

Oh, and upgrading the Life Support is one of the first things I do in a new ship. I managed to limp my exploring Adder about 60Ly through Hyperspace to an occupied system and dock it with about 13 minutes left with A-class (25 minutes?) Life Support. 1.5MCr of exploration data saved. Worth the tiny weight increase over D-class (7.5 minutes) I reckon I could have gone about 120Ly easily, even with a minute or so to fuel scoop. But... I'm insane.
