Newcomer / Intro What activities to undertake as Original Backer in Cobra

Hi folks,

Friend of mine is an original backer and he hasn't played in a long time. Somewhere in the past his ship exploded and now he's back in a Cobra. I plan to meet him and drop some silver or other valuable cargo so he can scoop and sell it to equip his ship. Any advice on this? What activity should he undertake to save up money for a bigger ship? Maybe trade or explore or community goals? Any advice would be welcome.

Sell the cobra.

Go to any high RES and help the police kill the bad guys. That will get him money quicker than scooping up silver, and it'll be more fun. After an hour, he should have enough to get a full-spec TT for mining or Robigo Sight-seeing missions.

Yeah, that's what got him into trouble in the first place.
The Cobra Mk IV is a great little miner, since it has extra internal compartments.

Then earn enough for a Python - then do engineers

So I suppose you need a kill warrant scanner for that or something? And some lasers and missile seekers I suppose? What kind of lasers? So tell me how do you excaclty do that? You just scan every ship and if it sais pirate you shoot him?

Just click the target ahead button or select the ship on the contact panel And as long as you keep it in front of you for 10-15 seconds your ships built in sensors will collect the data from the target. If it is a pirate or other sort of offender it will display wanted in the info panel at the bottom left of your HUD, looking in contacts will show more information including how much it is worth.
You only need a Kill Warrant Scanner in an anarchy system, anywhere else it is a useful way to get more money, where bounties don’t show up.

You don’t have to scan every ship, the ones busy mining in a RES and their wing mates are not going to be pirates but the one that comes right up to you enquiring what cargo you have will be.

In a disputed anarchy system such as Carcosa you need a KWS if you don't want to run the risk of not being attacked by either side (it's a local bye-law; other anarchy systems may vary) . Otherwise it's ballast.

I always fit a KWS if I'm gearing up to fight pirates. If you're going to shoot someone and claim a bounty why not claim all the bounties?

Periodically I visit an interstellar factor and claim those additional bounties from factions I've often never heard of. I lose 25% to the IF but compared with not running a KWS the 75% I do receive is money for nothing.

We took another path that had less risk. I transferred 32 tons of gold to my friend and he bought a fuel scoop and we moved to another location were we could trade silver. For the first time I was in a wing with two others and we traded silver untill my friend could buy a type 6. With the three of us we traded silver, my two friends both in a type 6 and me in my python and we shared trade dividents.

I remember it took me weeks or maybe months to get my type 6. First I traded fish and clothing to an adder, then a cobra and then a type-6. I kickstarted both my friends by transferring gold and silver to them by abandoning it in space and my friends scooping it up. So I helped two of my friend into a type-6 in under a week.

Actually, my daughter started playing the game the day before yesterday, and she's flying a Cobra Mk III atm. First she D-rated the Sidey delivering messages, upgraded to the Hauler and put in DSS. She has 10 MCr in her account last time I checked, probably more like 20MCr now.
Just sayin'.
