Newcomer / Intro what am i doing wrong here

im out attacking "wanted" im assuming npc ships but sometimes i dont get credits for it after its destroyed..the first couple i did but now since i get nothing even though the target is wanted and turned red against me when i attacked.

what am i not seeing here?

You are not getting shots into the target within the last 10 or 20 seconds or so. Not sure what the time threshold is, but just as you will claim a bounty even though other NPC's are helping you out, and you don't necessarily get the killing shot in, so if you are out of the action for long enough before it is destroyed, then you won't get the bounty.

I have also had that happen if I do get a shot in at the last moment, but have only just joined the fight, but that's less likely to happen.

I made the same "small error" doing the same thing.
Make sure there's plenty of authority ships nearby and keep shooting until he pops. If your last shot is within a few seconds before he pops, you'll still get the bounty (and that warm fuzzy feeling knowing you rid the system of one more piece of npc vermin)

If there are other players shooting at the target you have to get the last shot in order to get the bounty, as has been said above with NPCs shooting a hit in the last few seconds will do.

Maybe in an anarchy, are they also tagged as lawless?

You only have to land a shot within 20 seconds of them blowing up. Previously, you also needed to be within 3km when they blew up, but I don't think that's true anymore. Stay within range just in case.
