What am I doing wrong!

Been flying accepting all sorts of missions, problem is I haven't managed to complete any one of them yet lol.. I travel the systems and such. Haven't seen any pirates to kill, no loot to pick up. All the "unidentified radar sources" turn out to be nothing. Really not sure what I'm doing wrong. I apologize, I am brand spanking new to ED but love it so far! Any help is appreciated. Please don't noob bash me lol.

LOL no noob bashing here. Ok so don't get mad if this is not your problem but, you have to return to the station that you picked up the mission from to get credit.

Ok so if its a pirate hunting mission, make sure you are in the correct system, then it should just be about flying around in super cruse until they show up to kill you. I am not sure if Pirate Lord is still bugged or now working.

Thanks for the reply and restraint. Yeah I understand that I would have to return to the original mission source to complete the mission. I WISH I could get to the point where I'm ready to head home. Generally I forcibly crash my ship into something and re spawn and accept new missions to fail once I run out of fuel. Thankfully there is no penalty for that, considering I can't get past square 1 to begin with.

Not tested this yet myself (I'm at work currently) but if I'm reading correctly the write up for V1.01 released a few hours ago, you no longer have to return to the starting point to finish a mission?

It's not mandatory, but you might want to try your hand at a few runs of simple trading to make a bit of profit and to get used to the game before taking on missions that have penalties for non-completion and time limits. It's a pretty complex game already (and it's not even finished yet!). Best advice for getting ahead in ED is what you're doing now... read the forums and ask questions. There's no silly questions. :)

Correct, you don't have to return for payment. I thought that was a trust thing at first, you know, return to get your payment until you built trust up.

Still makes it easier, not returning each time.

I think the problem is that there's no way to find pirates (or indeed a specific cargo) at the moment. The bounty hunter missions thus turn into a frustrating, boring slog through random encounter after random encounter, hoping to run into a pirate in one of them.

Placeholder, I know, but no fun right now. The delivery missions work very well, though, and if I was of a more piratey bent, I'd probably have no problem with the "kill civilians" mission either, as small civvies is all I find in the random encounter zones.
