Engineers What am I supposed to do with the SRV?

So I wanna increase my jump range. I've got everything except the selenium and yttrium. I landed on a moon that based on a search here said was supposed to have lots of mats around the crater, but I've spent 2+ hours aimless wandering around in the SRV in what seems to be a hopeless search of mats needed for the engineers.

I dont know what the hell Im supposed to be looking for. The radar scan thing tells me nothing, I get spikes but I keep driving towards them and see nothing but rocks that all look the same but do nothing when I shoot them.

If this is the grind required to find mats Im so not doing this anymore. Id rather stick to plain ole mining. I honestly regret buying Horizons and am starting to lose total interest in doing anything for the engineers. Just simply isnt worth my time. I could be fighting, trading, mining or exploring where I at least get *something* for my effort. So far Horizons has been a total bust.

Rocks that can be shot at have popup target reticles. Learn from videos how best to use scanner and learn to drive fast and safe for quite long times. It isn't just that easy.

You have to learn how to use the wave scanner. You pretty much want to focus on finding metallic meteorites, but sometimes you wont have a choice and will have to make do with other things.
It is a little confusing at first. Basically the further away you are from the object the wider its signature will appear on your scanner. The closer you the narrower will be the signature. You will be able to lock on to objects that you are meant to shoot.

Maybe whoever suggested Decait 7B was supposed to have these materials was TOTALLY wrong and I wasted my time looking for nothing. I'll give it a shot in another place but so far Im *hating* this experience.

I am on Deciat 4 found 3 or 4 arsenic and 1 yttrium so far and 2 or 3 niobium as well as a ton of iron, magnesium etc... Also found a few poi's and picking up some valuable cargo, should make a few hundred thousands when I turn it all in. So far having fun just driving around. It is a higher G world 1.3 or so, makes driving a lot easier not as much skidding and sliding, can go faster and not worry about sliding into different directions.

I find Deciat 7B to be very unrewarding.
If I am looking for Yttrium I'll head to Heilelang 2.
Coordinates seem to be irrelevant. Find plain flat surface, set yourself a direction, drive full speed until you get a hit on your wave-scanner. Listen for sound and visual queues. Every once in a while stop, look left 90 degrees, look right 90 degrees, continue.
This has yielded me the best results.

Overall the gathering of mats is easiest on medium gravity worlds as the mats fall quickly and your SRV gets firm grip on the ground. Flat terrain is better as you can easily cover much more area. Stones, keep an eye out for them, jump over them.
