Horizons What An Amazing Sim

Greetings to all from a new commander!

I just wanted to say how absolutely impressed I am with Elite Dangerous.

I accidentally stumbled across it after watching videos on YouTube ripping No Man's Sky - I decided to see what other space sims were out there, which led me to Elite.
Wow - that is all I can say!

I first discovered computer games in my senior year of college (1980) - a wonderful little text based adventure called Advent (similar to Zork). I was so immersed by this new world that I often scheduled time in the computer lab at 4 and 5 in the morning, so I would not be interrupted. And I was so excited by it that, although I was too late in my education to change degrees, I did change careers after graduating.

36 years later, I'm still a computer programmer (a dying breed - mainframe business applications), and still playing games for recreation, mainly first-person adventures and flight sims.

Elite Dangerous is without a doubt the most enjoyable and immersive sim I've ever played. Whether I wish to dog-fight (which I do not), travel from port to port delivering cargo, spend time mining, exploring and mapping new worlds, or simply look at the BEAUTIFUL vistas, each and every aspect is sheer pleasure. Elite Dangerous is the best of game play and simming in one package. I've already logged 362 hours in the month since I've started playing, and there is no end in site (thank the heavens I have a very understanding wife).

My highest compliments to Frontier for this wonderful sim (calling it a game is short-changing it), and for their continuous support and enhancements. Thank you!!!

Welcome CMDR! A year and a half , and some 2000 hours later, Elite is still the first game I fire up when I feel like a gaming session. It truly is the Granddaddy of space sims, nothing out there even remotely compares to it. It simply gets better and better, patch after update. Enjoy your space adventures, and have some rep :)

Yep, I'm absolutely hooked. Having the ability to carry out actions for a faction, Which actually influences the system and the faction itself, is amazing! It's a massive strategy game, combat, flight sim, MMORPG all rolled into one!

Frontier have mastered what a space game should all be about.

Welcome commander!

Now get yourself a VR system (preferably an Oculus Rift at the moment) and live the game, not just play it! :)

After a while we kind of forget the first impressions and take it for granted, so it's refreshing to read a newcomer's impression. It reminds me of that "wow" moment when I completed my first planetary landing [heart]

Second that! It's all to easy to find those who can't see the galaxy for the stars, but there is really a lot of fun to be had for those who are into that sort of thing. :)

Welcome! It really is a pretty good game, for the right kind of person, which apparently, you are. I've had my ups and downs and considered uninstalling it more than once, but I've also went to bed re-living the events of the evening (good and bad) more than once also. I've got 916 hours, way more than any other game in my library, so it must do something for me.:)

I'm also trying to get an Oculus or Vive, from what I heard is a really different game with those :)
