Greetings to all from a new commander!
I just wanted to say how absolutely impressed I am with Elite Dangerous.
I accidentally stumbled across it after watching videos on YouTube ripping No Man's Sky - I decided to see what other space sims were out there, which led me to Elite.
Wow - that is all I can say!
I first discovered computer games in my senior year of college (1980) - a wonderful little text based adventure called Advent (similar to Zork). I was so immersed by this new world that I often scheduled time in the computer lab at 4 and 5 in the morning, so I would not be interrupted. And I was so excited by it that, although I was too late in my education to change degrees, I did change careers after graduating.
36 years later, I'm still a computer programmer (a dying breed - mainframe business applications), and still playing games for recreation, mainly first-person adventures and flight sims.
Elite Dangerous is without a doubt the most enjoyable and immersive sim I've ever played. Whether I wish to dog-fight (which I do not), travel from port to port delivering cargo, spend time mining, exploring and mapping new worlds, or simply look at the BEAUTIFUL vistas, each and every aspect is sheer pleasure. Elite Dangerous is the best of game play and simming in one package. I've already logged 362 hours in the month since I've started playing, and there is no end in site (thank the heavens I have a very understanding wife).
My highest compliments to Frontier for this wonderful sim (calling it a game is short-changing it), and for their continuous support and enhancements. Thank you!!!
