What animals do you need before support ends?

So this won’t be about your dream packs, or necessarily how you want the rest of 2024 to go. This is about what remaining animals do you really need in Planet Zoo? I wanted this to be a fun and open discussion, separate from our bucket list species or wishlist packs. These may not be animals you really like.

Also for sake of discussion let’s leave flying birds out of this. I know how much we all want them and I do too, but there is no sense bringing up something that hasn’t happened yet. Now if Frontier changes their minds we can absolutely talk about it.

I’ll go first!

  • I think petting zoos aren’t 100% represented well in game. So a Nigerian dwarf goat is one of the most important animals for me to get right now. Combined with the llama I can make a pretty good farm/ kids area so I’ll be content.
  • With waterfowl floodgates now being open Frontier has no excuse now. I need a duck species, any one will do. While I would prefer the mandarin or mallard, at this point I will take what I can get. Also I would love the black swan, Oceania gets another bird because why not?
  • For its beautiful coloration, and how common it is in zoos I really need the American Flamingo. Even the 🦩 emoji is based on the brilliant pink hue of the species. For the sake of diversity I would love the pretty in pink Barbie birds.
  • I think North and South America need a bird species very badly, so I think it would be good to hit two continents with one bird. I will shill the burrowing owl until the sun explodes. Combined that with a scarlet ibis or roseate spoonbill and we could get some much needed bird rep into these regions.
  • For the last birds I need (I will always want more) are two pheasant clones, and they are the golden pheasant and western capercaillie. They would fill out Europe and Asia more and I could get two more temperate/ cold weather birds for my zoos. Sounds like a win-win for me.
Ok on to non-birds again.
  • Monkeys are important, but there is only one I really need. The golden lion tamarin is one of the most important Zoo conservation stories ever, I cannot stress how much I need them.
  • For ungulates I really need the reeves muntjac and peere David’s deer. The commonality of one and conservation story of the other are too important for me to pass up.
  • For reptiles I only need a couple more: an African crocodile species, the Indian cobra, green anaconda, and a chameleon species. I’m flexible with anything else.
Unsurprisingly I need more birds than anything else, but at this point I’m not too picky. I can get only one or two more of my needs and I’ll be mostly content. Especially with mods. I have a good feeling support will continue into 2024 so I think we could have a great 5 years of planet zoo.

  • Pelican; number one need right now. It is such a iconic species that everyone knows of. One of the last ABC zoo animals left.
  • Hamadryas Baboon; Again iconic animal, we need at least one more African monkey in game.
  • Any South American Monkey; South American Fauna cannot be represented by just the Capuchin Monkey

Anything else is just a bonus right now.

Would be nice to have:
  • a Mongoose
  • African ground dwelling bird (Grey Crowned Crane/ Secretary Bird)
  • Asian Antelope (preferabaly Blackbuck)
  • Coati
  • a smaller Ungulute (Dik Dik/ Muntjac)
  • Many more Exhibit species (especcially Asian snakes)

Not too many actual needs over wants at this stage, the recent eurasia pack did tick off number of personal wishlist animals for me. Most of the actual needs are unsurprisingly habitat birds.

Birds:
  • One more flamingo - ideally in the form of the American flamingo or Chilean flamingo.
  • A duck - Hopefully a generic Mallard Duck to Liven up nature areas around the zoo but more specific ducks for dedicated aviaries would be also great.
  • An african bird - Choice of Secretary bird, storks, grey crowned crane.
  • A South American bird - Roseate Spoonbill of course.
Everything else:
  • An african monkey - colobus, de brazza, patas, Vervet Monkeys are all options
  • One more african hoofstock - Another gazelle, gerenuk, kudu or a 'clone' giraffe/zebra
  • South american monkey - Howler, Squirrel or spider are all good options
Borderline need/want
  • Tundra animal - musk ox and walrus
  • Another otter - sea otter or eurasian/NA otter
  • Asian Deer - Pere David, siberian musk or axis deer
  • Asian monkey - Any langur, golden snub nosed monkey or lion tailed macaque

I know many people don't want it. "We already have enough cats", "let's focus on [whatever taxonomical group is underrepresented]", "It's not a popular zoo animal", "It's ugly"...
But there's no reason to NOT include it. Frontier doesn't give a damn on "popular zoo animals" or "whatever taxonomical group is underrepresented". They just do their stuff and give us even the weirdest animals (Proboscis Monkey, Saiga...), and while I'm happy for the people who really wanted these animals in game, they were never a popular demand by the majority - and yet, they made it into the game. Many people are like "what" about the Saiga now. In the end it didn't matter to Frontier. They included it anyway.
So, since "it would perfectly make sense to include this animal because of [valid reasons]" doesn't have more value than "I want this animal because I love it", I won't bother to come up with reasons why it would be reasonable to include the Pallas Cat (like... not much work, because the rig already exists (Sand Cat), or filling the alpine taiga and tundra niche as a second small cat in the game...) and just say: I want the Pallas Cat because it's my favorite animal and I'm missing it terribly by now.

I’m hopeful! If Swiftie got the porcupine you can get the cat!
Personally I want it, I quite like the Pallas cat and would love to have another cold weather animal. Some Zoos in the Northeast USA has some Pallas cats. I think Queens Zoo is one of them.

Oh a Pelican would be great! I can’t decide if I want the Brown Pelican for South and North America or the White Pelican for Europe.

I completely forgot about another African Monkey! If I had a choice it would be the black and white colobus. Personally I don’t need a baboon too much, but I would not complain if we got one.

Well, i need 4 at the very least. All from South América.

  • Greater rhea
  • Patagonian mara
  • South American coati
  • Howler monkey

Ocelot is somewhat essential to me as well

The rest i like would be nice to have and some are favorites (secretary, blackbuck, more birds) but i don't need them like those 4/5.

My Big 3 Species Needs: (I would probably put these in all of my zoos and miss them every time I play.)
  • Golden Lion Tamarin: They are super iconic, my favorite zoo animal, and an important conservation icon for South America. I would be so incredibly happy to see them in the game.
  • American Black Bear: They are pretty common in zoos near me and a central species for local rep. All of the colors (glacier blue, kermode white, blonde, cinnamon red, chocolate brown, and standard black) would contribute to make this the most fun bear species. I miss them from ZT1.
  • Serval: It's my favorite of the smaller cats, which I want to see more of. It's a common zoo animal near me that shows up in both lower and higher budget zoos.
Other, more general needs:
  • Monkeys: (I mainly need a few for South America, but there are others that seem important, too)
    • South America: The spider monkey, other tamarins, squirrel monkey, and howler monkey all seem like great options. At least two but preferably all should be added.
    • Africa: Baboons are ABC animals, and the smaller, tropical ones are so common in zoos. It's a little weird not to have them.
    • Asia: As much as I love the red shanked douc, India needs a monkey more.
  • Birds: (almost everyone agrees they are deeply lacking)
    • South America: The king penguin doesn't really count, imo. One of the reddish tropical ones and maybe a rhea are needed.
    • North America: We've got nothing. There are options: turkey, brown pelican, cranes, wood duck, and roadrunner. I like the turkey, but I'm flexible. We need at least 1.
    • Africa: I would love to see a grey crowned crane and/or a secretary bird. A ground hornbill and/or a guineafowl would also be awesome. Africa needs more.
    • Pelican and Waterfowl: Now that we have a swan rig, there are so many waterfowl that would be useful, especially the Mandarin duck. Pelicans also seem possible.
    • Other: Asian pheasants, rockhopper penguins, and a few other species would be great to have as well.
  • South America: (needs a bit more besides monkeys and birds)
    • Small, arboreal critters: The coati and tamandua are rightfully frontrunners. Kinkajou, agouti, and porcupine would be great, too.
    • Margay/Ocelot: I feel like they are so iconic to the Amazon. It's weird not to have one.
    • Other things to fill out the region: The spectacled bear, Patagonian mara, and a deer would be great to flesh out the roster.
  • Smaller Objectives:
    • Asian Hoofstock: I would love a markhor and a muntjac. At least one Indian antelope seems important. Maybe some other deer?
    • Marsupials/Monotremes: I will be sad if we don't get a tree kangaroo. The rock wallaby, possum, and especially echidna seem great, too.
    • Pallas's cat: My most-wanted thing that didn't fit into another category. I hope we get them, too.

Well since the Eurasia Animal Pack, most of my needed species have been added. But here’s my list of ones that would really complete the game for me:

Domestic Species - I need at least two to four, but would welcome as many as possible. My personal choices are African Dwarf Goat and Scottish Highland Cattle. Would also love a Common Mallard to go with our new swans, and a Domestic Rabbit species and Kunekune Pig to go along with them.

Tropical Birds - To brighten up my Tropical Houses with some easy to make birds. The most important ones for me are Scarlet Ibis, Roseate Spoonbill, American Flamingo and Victoria Crowned Pigeon.

Gelada - And no, I won’t take the Hamadrayas. The Gelada, to me, is the most interesting primate. Seems like it’d be easy for Frontier to make too, since it is mostly terrestrial and wouldn’t have to use the strange climbing system.

New World Primates - Probably the most obvious omission from the game at this point besides birds, fish and domestics. I would love to see a Spider Monkey species and a Howler Monkey species minimum. A Saki could be nice too.

Coati - This is one of the last famous ‘zoo animals’ missing now. I’d prefer the White Nosed, but honestly any species would be valuable to me.

Nocturnal Primates - You can’t build a Night House without primates! The Aye Aye is a bare minimum, with the Loris and Galago being great options too.

Muskox - My need for this animal is somewhat lessened since the addition of the Wisent, but I would still love to see it. It’s such a fascinating and gorgeous creature, and I’d love to see how Frontier executes it.

Asian Ungulates -Things like a Yak, Markhor, Blackbuck, Gaur and Muntjac all seem like safe and easy bets for Frontier.

Two Toed Sloth - The reason this is at the bottom is because we already have a usable sloth species. But, whilst I can use the Brown Throated, the Linnaeus’ Two Toed Sloth would be much more realistic for me to use.

Eurasian Brown Bear - I won’t say anything more than it is necessary for European builders. But I understand the backlash towards it.

Realistically, I could end support with just the addition of a couple of domestic species and be very happy. But I feel like all of the species on this list would really complete the game for me, and would allow me complete creative control over my zoos!

Anything else is a welcomed bonus.

Further species I really would like to see

Spectacled Bear, ABB (fullfill Bear species)
Serval, Ocelot
Bush Dog
Hamadryas Baboon
Honey Badger (fullfill the Trio of Madness)
Blackbuck
Coati sp.

I think these 10 species are the Most important for me. But there are plenty more I really would Welcome.

My wants are 3:

  1. American black bear - truly, it's the last North American species needed, so having this will make the continent feel complete, at least for me
  2. Monkeys - this is kinda obvious, but I have a list of what I'd like to see:
    • South America
      1. Spider monkey (any species)
      2. Howler monkey (any species, preferably black howler)
      3. Squirrel monkey (any species)
    • Africa
      1. Black-and-white colobus
      2. Hamadryas baboon
      3. Gelada
      4. Vervet monkey
    • Asia
      1. Lion-tailed macaque
      2. Grey langur
  3. Birds - yeah, another obvious inclusion. I'm only including habitat birds, no flying birds. Here's my list:
    • North America
      1. Ruddy duck
      2. Canadian goose
      3. Domestic turkey
      4. Prairie chicken (any species)
      5. Whooping crane
    • South America
      1. Greater rhea
      2. Muscovy duck
      3. Scarlet ibis
      4. Roseate spoonbill
      5. American flamingo
    • Africa
      1. Shoebill
      2. Secretary bird
      3. Grey-crowned crane
    • Asia
      1. Red-breasted goose
      2. Greylag goose
      3. Golden pheasant
      4. Mandarin duck
      5. Common pheasant
    • Europe
      1. Mallard
    • Oceania
      1. Black swan

What would complete the roster IMO
  • ASIA: Another caprine + Monkey + another antelope + Pheasant + Badger
  • AFRICA: Ground-dwelling birds + Hornbill + Smaller Antelope + Mongoose
  • EUROPE: European Brown Bear + Duck + Goose
  • NA: American Black Bear + Crane + Turkey + Duck + Goose + Badger + Small Cat
  • SA: Monkeys + Patagonian Cavy + Waterfowl + Birds in general
  • OCEANIA: Echidna
  • ANY Warmer weather Sheep + Civet + another Giraffe + another Zebra + Parrot + Lagomorph + Gecko + Chameleon + Cobra
  • Domestics I want, but I fear we will get just one breed of goat for example which IMO is unrealistic IF we get domestic anything, I'd like at least two breeds... Just because irl not every zoo has African Pygmy goats
  • AND Lastly, we need fish and more insects of all kinds...

MUST HAVE: Nigerian dwarf goat, Tree kangaroo, South American Coati, Short Beaked Echidna

Really want: Orca, Puffin, Manatee, White stork/Marabou stork, Pelican, Ducks, Greater Kudu or Giant Eland, African Civet, Yellow Throated Marten, Tiger Quoll, Rabbit, Patagonian Mara, Golden Pheasant, Musk Ox, Howler Monkey, Tamandua, Golden Snub Nose Monkey, Marmosets, Walrus, Spectacled Bear, Shetlandpony or Miniature Donkey, Markhor, Gelada,
