Hi, I see people on the forums referring to trading with 'rares' but I still don't understand what this means.
What items are regarded as rare? where do you usually find them? where is the best place to sell them?
If there is already a guide to rares can you point me in that direction?

I also wanted to ask about those 'seeking luxuries' ships that you come across sometimes. I've tried to contact them but I couldn't work out what to do.
Do they buy stuff from you or do they give you missions to find luxury items? If they do buy stuff from you what items do they take?
How do you make contact with them?

There are rare goods, scattered around the galaxy. Buying them then taking them far away from the point of purchase will give you a manyfold profit.

The Seeking Luxury traders will buy performance enhancers from you at a better profit. All you need to do is to fly close to them, they will take the cargo from you and give you the credits.

There are some systems that sell a unique good, for example Lave sells Lavian Brandy. The only place you can buy it is Lave therefore it's considered a rare. There are various spreadsheets showing all of the available rares elsewhere on the forum.

Rare commodities are available from only one source (station) and their resale value increases with distance from point of sale (up to a point). They can be immensely profitable, but there is a downside: the systems that produce these commodities are well known (see here) and so attract the attentions of both pirates and PKers.

Rares are certain type of goods that are sold in a very few places. There value increases many times over the further away you get from where you bought them from, typically 120LY or so.

For instance, Lave sells Lavian Brandy. Sell that 200LY away in another system and you'll make LOADSAMONEY!

One last thing though, are the rares recognisable by having the name of the system of origin in the title ie 'Lavian Brandy'?

If you see a rare in the Commodities Market, it will be in a different colour to the normal goods.

Give an example, I buy some skins from Altair (Solo Orbiter) for 650cr per ton and travel 150ly away. I can sell them for 16K credits per ton.
