what are the downsides/negatives of the DK2 rift?

I've been patiently waiting for the commercial release of the Oculus Rift. When I read recently that it's been delayed again, and likely won't even be out in 2015, I was sorely disappointed.

So I'm tempted to say screw waiting, and just buy the DK2. But I'm wondering, what are it's downsides? Where is it lacking?
I figure there must be a technical reason that they keep pushing the release back.
For you DK2 ED users, what is the DK2 missing?
I realize we can't compare to a non-existent commercial release, but I'd just like to get some feedback from current users on what they feel are it's shortcomings (if any). Resolution? Long term comfort? Nausea or motion sickness? Something else?

There's nothing really "wrong" with it - but you really notice the low resolution. Also it's a pain in the backside to keep clean and smear-free - I've got long eyelashes and it still smears up at maximum distance lol

Resolution, but if you have the horsepower you can improve on this downside.

However......

I've said this many times before "Immersion over Quality"

Why not go about this a different way, don't look for the negatives look at the positives.

The positives far out way the negatives, look at the reasons you should be ordering a Rift.

I'm sure you will of seen ? but just incase check this thread out

I've started looking, and I'm finding out how deep the rabbit hole goes.
My motherboard only supports PCIx2.0. Which puts me in line for a MB upgrade, which will likely mean CPU upgrade as well. Add that to the cost of the vid card, plus the DK2, and I'm into this for a grand, minimum.... ugh.

I think I might be waiting after all. :(

So I was just reading up on tomshardware.com, and apparently the PCIx slots are backwards compatible, so maybe i can make this work with just a new vid card after all.

Thank goodness. I gave up the "PC hacking" years ago. Wasn't in the mood to try and build a whole new rig.

There is hardly a difference in pcie 2.0 and 3.0 for gaming...very little difference between last 4 generations of cpu for gaming too. now if you are doing more than gaming like rendering video, etc... then different story

Yeah, I initially thought they weren't compatible. I'm not worried about any negligible perf hit from that.
...now just need to figure out what vid card to buy. :S

Bang for bucks would be a 970 GTX at the moment, which will give you a great experience with the rift.

I'm sure there will be a AMD equivalent, which somebody will advise.

The good thing about docking in this sub forum, it's full of some cracking people who genuinely like to help and give great advise

Sometimes I just wonder when reading stuff in the other sub forums, we actually found alien life in the galaxy and gave them a quick course in English then brought them here ;)

You'll never want to take it off. You'll never want to play with a monitor again. Conversation, eating and sleep will all become a chore.

You're all alone inside the rift. You'll see beautiful things, feel like you are really "there", have some great moments, but you can't share any of those with others. That can be frustrating at times.

I love this thread. Makes me smile

But op did you mean pci-e x2 or pci-e 2.0
Because those are two very diff situations lol!

My i7 930 @4.3 ghz with gtx 970 was amazing for the rift and ed.
I sold that sys for 300$ with a gtx 560
