What are the expected trade gains for a type 6 transport?

I've never looked into trade, and I'm not sure where to get the information on where to buy low and sell high, but before I start digging into that, I want to know if the budget I have is enough to make the effort worthwhile, or if I should just stick to what I've been doing.

So, currently, I could trade in my Cobra3 for a Type-6 transport and have 1.5mil left for upgrades/cargo expenses. In a more-or-less ideal situation, how much profit could I make per-hour starting from that?

I'm comparing this against my battles in high-conflict zones where I can make about 150k-200k an hour fairly consistently.

Well with no shield and the full 112T cargo, running an average 2500 CPT route 4 or 5 times an hour (15 or 10 minute routes) you could be making 1.1 to 1.4 million per hour. Or with a shield and 104T cargo with the same CPT route you could make 1.04 to 1.3 million per hour.

personally I sometimes questioned whether getting the type 6 was worth it you can arguably make around the same amount of cash doing a rare goods trade loop as a fully loaded t6.

If I remember correctly for a good while I simply took my t6 on the rare goods circuit since its about the same amount of money

I waited and saved up for an Asp. You can run size 3 shields with boosters and still have 120 cargo. Go the max shields on it and you can get... IIRC, 102 Cargo. You can still arm up and run other missions along with hauling well. Pretty close to a T6 (IIRC) and still all Med Pads.

Plus you have the other bonuses of an Asp as far as range goes... for PvP or PP or whatnot, I have no idea, I keep to my own corner of the galaxy. :)

Oh.

The view is AMAZING!

Okay, that's good to know, thanks. I might not jump to trading just yet, but it's good to know that it's potentially more profitable than combat if I get bored of it.

RES farming typically earns more than trading until you can afford an Imperial Clipper. With the bounty bonuses in Duval space you won't earn more than RES camping until Anaconda or Type 9.

Unless you are set on getting Elite Trader I wouldn't recommend it until you've saved up enough for the heavy freight movers.

I am running a T6 currently for trading. I went from Sidewinder to T6 =D You will want to upgrade your thrusters and FSD and get your cargo area as large as you can. Don't worry if it isnt huge right now. When I first got my T6 I had maybe 32 cargo capacity. To get money fast, I traded rares with this route: http://eliteraretrader.co.uk/?route=51,52,23,72,62,1,30,79,77,51&name=Basic

Look at the Rare Commodities List here for other rares: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=63119

If you want to trade normal commodities, then check out Thrudds forum post here: http://www.elitetradingtool.co.uk/

Any other questions?

As others above me have stated: ASP > Type 6

Jump Range, ability to combat refit etc.

Also 1m/h is pretty easy to achieve if you use the "proper tools", or if you know how to do it without them. Keep in mind that you'll need cash for fitting your ship and cash to buy stuff, 120 Imperial Slaves are expensive (hint)

In my view, you need about 4mil to outfit a T6 properly (I spent 6mil on mine but bought a couple of expensive A rated goodies like FSD.
Anyway to answer your question, rather badly, it depends on the run that you do. I had a good run where I got over half a mil and that wasn't a full load and expected about the same for my next run but went to the wrong system and broke even :) It depends on what you find.
