What are the Thargoids collecting, and why?

I have noticed that the Thargoids are scanning and picking up escape pod.
I have heard they are also picking up Meta Alloys.
If any Cmdr has seen them collect anything ells could you please post it here.

Seen them collect Thargoid Probes, heard they like other thargoid stuff too.

I've been in quite a few USSs and they(Thargoids) are only picking up certain items.
I think this is their main reason for being here at the moment.
I think they are doing some research.

I just witnessed one grab an occupied escape pod. Another grabbed a damaged one. It seems they are collecting people. ME2 comes to mind, and that terrifies me!

Having said, that, they are quite welcome to drink the blood of the Federation, and Empire.

I've also seen them collect "Thargoid Sensors" so I don't think they're just making Soylent Green, unless the sensors are needed for the ovens...
