Are you sure? I feel like they're on every planet ive looked at. Cant just be my luck...I have done a quick search without satisfactory result, because i don't know the correct nomenclature.
They don't appear around every planet.
I assumed he meant the rings. I always assumed they represented the planet in question's electro magnetismAre you asking about the rings (barely visible here), or the surface pattern?
LOL.Yeah, didn't think of that, but no, they're orbital traces of some kind. They are transient in map view and you can watch them moving. But they don't occur around every planet, in fact they seem to be quite rare.Could be scratches on your cockpit screen.
Yes that seems to make sense. It's the only planetary body in a system of three suns, so i suppose the bars could represent the mass of the stellar bodies involved.Or distance or magnitude for all i know.I always assumed these represented the various orbital and rotation reference planes, of the body and of the orbit. If they were orbital traces, they wouldn't necessarily be circular.
For example, there's a faint vertically-aligned circle that seems to line up with the terminator plane. The faint horizontal one, and the one of the more prominent, close circles, seem to match an equatorial and rotation axis-aligned plane, respectively. The two larger ones might indicate the orbital plane and normal plane for the parent body.
I'm curious if this is correct, though.
You don't see them on every landable, though.I can't say with 100% certainty, but I'm fairly certain the rings are just decorative, to make it look cool. It's possible they take some of the planet's parameters into account, but I've never noticed any pattern. You'll only see them on the planets that you can zoom in on, which happen to be the landables.
Yes, that probably explains it.They are very faint, but i can see now with rotating the angle they do become more apparent. MiloGreenRanger 's graphic helped me understand what's going on a little better..They are easier to see on large bodies, small bodies you rarely see them to the same extent but I suspect they are there.
