What are your most and least used animals in the game?

For me personally, this is a bit of cheating, because i only am building on my third zoo so far, with not even one animal showing up in all 3 of them, but i know which ones i dont really have a need to use, so they are gonna be my least used.

So the one animal that i know will be in every, single one of my zoos giung forward is the black tailed prariedog.
Small, cute, fits basicly everywhere i have a spot open, i really really love these guys.
They edge out a little over the meerkats, but thats just personal preferance for these temperate little rodents, that i personally also find cuter.

Two other animals that often pop up in my zoos are the reindeer and the nyala. Funfact! The nyala was the second animal i ever build a habitat for and since them when i just need a random hoofstock species i just pop in the nyala. They are just simly beautifull and i love the yellow bits.
The reindeer mostly falls here, because it was the only cervid in the game for 2 years, but eventhough i will also include the fallow deer in a lot of zoos moving forward, i doubt that the reindeer will fall out of my favor. I allways wanted more deer, but that doesnt mean i will leave my savior behind.
But they also just have a gorgeous modell, afterall reindeer are quite gorgeous animals themself and their grayish brown white coloration allways reminds me of coffee or hot chocolate, which makes me feel all warm and fuzzy.
Just love these guys.

An animal i just started building my first habitat for is the lion. I know many people have grapes with especally the male one, but it looks allright, while the females look absolutly amazing! I love seeing them run around and building my habitat for them has been alot of fun so far. They were the only species of big cat not present in my first zoo, but better late then never to fall in love with it.

The last two ones i want to mention (for now) are the red kangaroo and the dhole, two of my favorite animals in the game, but for totally different reasons.
The kangaroo just IS the animal with the best movement in the game and i love to throw them into filler habitats, as they fit in basicqlly every zoo and serve the same niche of ungulates in the zoo ecosystem, but totally different in apperance and locomotion, making them really refreshing jumping across your meadows.
The other one, the dhole, is not just my favorite animal in the game, but also a very, very flexible one, near essential for every asian themed area and one i talk often enough on the forum, so likly you allready know my extended opinion on these red golden boys and girls.

For some animals i weirdly havent used yet, apes come to mind.
Its not that i dislike them but i never felt a need to build for them. I really wanted to build for the orangutans right in the beginning, but the spot got slipped away by komodo dragons and since then my wish to build for them just became slimmer and slimmer.
Rn, i think gorillas would be the most tempting but not really fit into my current zoo.

Another few i allways wanted to build for are elephants and hippos. I even planbed out where i wanted my asian elephants and hippo house to go in my first zoo, but ot just didnt happen because the zoo had grown to large (but i migt revisit once i got my pc cleaned up as i know finally have the asian ungulate i wanted to put next to them)
I think its just because they are so big and need so much space that i push them back on the priority list till i just dont get to them.

The last one are the giant pandas, which literally has to do with the fact that i like building less budget zoos, so it feels wrong to include them, but the PairiDaza crowd of builders propaply finds great use for them.

All in all i like all the animals in the game, with only the bonobo feeling really redundant and the HBB should have been eurasian, but overall, very happy with the animal selection!

I love using reindeer, fallow deer, moose, because I love deer. I also like ungulates in general so they are usually my go to animals.

I also like some cats, like Siberian tigers, clouded leopards, lynx. I usually include them last because they are expensive to buy and keep.

And lastly I love canines, not ashamed to admit it. Dholes, wolves, foxes are quickly included in my zoos.

Animals I use least are bears, because I think they kind of look like giant potatoes.

I also never use lions, because they just don't look like they fit with the other animals. They have a weird design.

And I never use apes. I intensely dislike apes.

I only have one zoo at a time, about 150 hours in the first one till it got to big, ~50-70 in my awesome zoo that got deleted and now i allready have around 30 hours in my newest one.
I simply dont like having multiple projects, the one time i tried i oversaved my current one by accident and overall i rather build on zoo i give my all in then many lesser zoos.
Focusses my attatchmemt and time spent to archieve something greater

I used to keep an Excel file where I counted how many times I built a habitat for each animal. My Planet Zoo history is such a chaotic mess that in the 2.5 years since its launch, I started nineteen projects in total, finishing... exactly none of them lol. But I'm on a really good track with my current project, my main zoo and my largest one yet, and feel like I have finally found my groove with the game (which is also in line with the fact that I haven't started a new zoo in more than half a year, and have consistently worked only in the two projects I'm in right now).

So, with that being said, I just updated my Excel file with all the builds I've done in the last few months and drumroll these are the results for my most used animals:
  • Indian Peafowl (9 times)
  • Greater Flamingo (7 times)
  • Red Ruffed Lemur (6 times)
  • African Buffalo, Bactrian Camel, Common Warthog, Galapagos Giant Tortoise, Llama, Nyala (5 times each)
  • Aldabra Giant Tortoise, American Bison, Baird's Tapir, Bongo, Pangolin, Giant Anteater, Indian Rhino, Mandrill, Babirusa, Pronghorn, Ring-Tailed Lemur, Cassowary, Dhole (4 times each)
I'll probably do a warthog habitat very soon, so they'll jump to the shared third spot then.
And I've still built nothing for these animals:
African Elephant, American Alligator, Arctic Wolf, Cougar, Eurasian Lynx, Giant Panda, Himalayan Brown Bear, Hippopotamus, Siberian Tiger plus four of the seven new DLC animals (Lechwe, Crane, Platypus, Caiman).
Which doesn't really make sense, because I love the cougar, the lynx, the tiger and the hippo, but I never felt like they fit into any of my projects. And I have no idea why I never dared to do a Giant Panda habitat so far, even though I'd love to tackle that.

For the future, I fully expect fallow deer, meerkats, binturongs, prairie dogs, the small-clawed otter and the badger to go into almost all of my zoos, because they're all just so useful and versatile.

I’m kind of on my first serious zoo, but I love the small-clawed otter, meerkat, sea lion, peafowl, and African penguin, all of which are good mid-budget options. On the other hand, I’ve built almost nothing for large carnivores because it’s hard to make their habitats feel magnificent enough for such significant species. Right now, my zoo project has one cat, two canids, and one bear. I really need to boost their numbers.

I don't think there's a species I've used in every zoo, but ones I've used in the majority of mine would be the red panda, at least one lemur, at least one tortoise, capuchin, giant otter (which can now finally be replaced by the ASCO), binturong. To my surprise, I've actually used the beaver in every zoo I've worked on since its release. Funny because prior to the NA pack, I actively did not want for it to be added.

As for habitat animals I've never used:
  • American alligator (will be in the zoo I'm currently working on, which focuses on wetlands species with the gaps mostly filled by low budget or local NA wildlife)
  • Arctic fox (might end up in my current zoo)
  • Babirusa
  • Bonobo
  • California sea lion (will be in current zoo)
  • Cougar (will be in current zoo)
  • Dingo
  • Malayan tapir
  • Moose (seems like a no brainer for my current zoo but I just can't get behind it)
  • Platypus (will be in current zoo)
  • Proboscis monkey
  • Red-crowned crane (will be in current zoo)
  • Southern white rhinoceros
  • Spectacled caiman (will be in current zoo)
  • Western chimpanzee
Kind of surprised about the chimp and babirusa now that I've listed it all out, but otherwise it makes sense. It's mostly newer DLC plus somewhat niche animals and the tapir.

Hmmm,…. I’ve never actually finished a zoo, but I’ve started a fair few and have built a lot of habitats just to test out ideas. Things I would generally expect to include in most zoos (depending on the concept) in future are:

Meerkats
Capuchins
Short-clawed otters (not used yet)
Ring-tailed lemurs
Nile monitors
Cheetahs
Red crowned cranes (not used yet)
Fallow deer
Cassowary
Fennec fox
Red panda

Ive used most of the others at some point with some notable exceptions that I’ve never used (yet). Excluding the wetlands pack (because I’ve only had time to try the platypus so far) I haven’t yet used (for various reasons):

African elephants
Gorillas
Chimps (I have used bonobos)
Hippos (I have used Pygmy hippos)
White rhino
Reindeer
Arctic wolf
Arctic fox
African buffalo
Bactrian Camel
Giant panda
Llama
Moose
Polar bear

…. I should have a look at this list and try out some of these!

Combining career mode and sandbox mode, I'm positive I've used every animal at least once. There are way too many animals that I've only used once to list here, but my most used animal is probably the Greater Flamingo, due to its versatility.

The animals I use the most:
  • Greater Flamingo -up until now, I had these in all of my zoos, but I might change things a bit now that we have another wading bird.
  • Capuchin Monkey - sadly the only new world monkey we have so it gets to also be in all my zoos…
  • African Penguin
  • Galapagos Tortoise - great filler species
  • Reticulated Giraffe
  • Plains Zebra
  • Indian Elephant

Things I havent used yet much:
  • Proboscis Monkey
  • Chinese Pangolin
  • North American Beaver
  • Himalayan Brown Bear
  • Bonobo
  • Siberian Tiger
  • Snow Leopard
  • Sable Antelope
  • Pronghorn

Not that I dont like these animals, it is that they did not fit into any of my zoos yet.

Most - these are the animals that I try to get into most every zoo, even if it's a region based zoo, they become part of my "around the world" area:
Giant Panda
Meerkat
Red Panda
Koala
I haven't used them in a lot of zoos yes, but I'm going to count the Asian Small Clawed Otter and the Capybara in this as well.

other animals I use frequently, though the ones with a * by them are used not quite as often, particular in zoos I want to have a smaller feel to. But if the zoo is even a medium sized zoo at least a couple of them will show up:
European Badger
Timber Wolf
Moose
Clouded Leopard
Snow Leopard
American Bison
Common Warthog
African Penguin
Bengal Tiger*
African Elephant*
Reticulated Giraffe*
West African Lion*

The ones I don't use very often:
Proboscis Monkey (in fact, I've only used them in the research zoo and removed them once completely researched - that was only to get the zoopedia acheivement)
Most of the antelopes aside from the Gemsbok - Gemsbok is my go to antelope of choice but I honestly just don't usually use too many antelopes in my zoos
Peafowl - I started using them a bit but they are now banned from new zoos.
Bonobo - I've only used in one game. Prefer the chimpanzee, but I'm not really big into using the primates that often.
Polar Bear - very difficult to use in Franchise which is what I mostly play

I've used the Giant Otter a bit previously, since I really wanted to have otters in my zoo, but now that we have my preferred species I definitely see me not using the Giant Otter very often.

Most used is the indian peafowl, after that comes the cassowary. Least used uh.. well i've never seen the big primates in action: gorilla, chimpanzee, bonobo, orangutan. I just don't like them.

I usually use European fallow deer, all of the canines, felines, and I like to sometimes use llamas. My most used canine is probably wolves or fennec foxes- they're so cute! My least favorite canine is probably hyenas, they are boring. My favorite/most used feline is either Snow leopard or jaguar my least favorite feline is probably Bengal tiger, they are just boring.

I play since almost 4 months ago, and i have 500 hours, so thnik its a lot but not much.

I have used all the animals at least 2 times, combined with the carrer/timed sceneraios and Franchise for reserch and complete de zoopedia and the new animals of the Wetlands dlc I have everything thoroughly investigated.

So my most used animal is the Zebras i always use in franchise mode (where i played more) because i have a full harem albino and with the max stats in fact i have 50 generations of zebras in franchise mode, also zebras is my favorite animals in real life

And The animals that i never build in sandbox mode and in franchise only one time, is the Gorilla, Bonobo i dont know why, because i love them but i think i don´t have the oportunty to build a zoo that i need them, i should buid for they in a near future :)
