What are your stats? ED:Board

What data are you talking about. If it's how long I have played Elite for, I don't care who knows it, except maybe the wife.
If it's data like my name and email address, I'd question why they ask for it in the first place, rather than be happy they have 'secured it'.

Even worse if your wife works for Google! You do browse in private mode don't you? :D

Though I agree with the bulk of your statement, for the OP it's not "freely given". You're registering for a certain "free" feature. Why don't people just say "cool" and either register or don't? I don't see a reason to critique the registration aspect. Guess what? I had to register here as well.

I personally don't care about my stats. It could be depressing in fact. I don't have any stats for how long I play other games, how many beers I've drank, how many hours I've spent in my garage with a broom in my hand, etc..

People very freely give up personal information because they are often unaware of the power the information they have provides companies. They don't need my details to process this information, so it is queer, which makes alarm bell sing. I appreciate that it is not 'freely' given, because they are being provided a service, I could have phrased that better. What I mean to say is, I am personally always aware of what I am giving to companies and what I am receiving in return and want this sentiment known because it may raise questions to people who are not of this mindset; it may make them question what they are trading in the future. If they are more vigilant, in turn it may stop companies from being so determined to get everyone to register their details when it is not necessary for them to provide the service they are giving.

This information upon yourself, is currently the most potent and lucrative force in marketing and therefore should be protected in earnest.
