None. Get up to 50-100k before spending any significant money on anything. Then decide what your focus will be - combat or trade/mining. Your decision will determine your next purchase.

A surprisingly effective upgrade is the Power Distributor.
This will increase how much charge your engines, shields, and weapon capacitors hold.
The ship will be able to boost more frequently, and shields will charge faster.

This too, but consider my comment regarding the power distributor when you get there.

"400 Billion Star Systems. Infinite Freedom. Blaze Your Own Trail"

The clue is in the tagline. For once, you're free to choose your path. Engage brain and make the most of it.

Seriously, just think about it - do whatever you feel. There is no wrong or right, best or worst. You can't "beat" this game.

well..there are wrongs. Putting a A3 Class FSD into a Cobra ist totally wrong =)

Just..get more money and upgrade your power plant, power distribution then thrusters, then shields, then gunz =)

First things I have been upgrading are the power distributor and power source(whatever ya call it) I figure having energy to spare and fast recharge times are a good start. After that I wonder if it is all about shields and big guns or would getting better thrusters be wise. n combat I like to turn and burn trying to stay out of line of fire, but I wonder if just getting better shields and guns would be better.

For a good ship...

I upgraded in this order:

1) Power Distributor - As said above, this recharges your ship systems faster. They have good ones that are the same or less weight, with better capability.
2) Fuel Scoop - Actually at 300cr, this could be your first mod. Careful refueling though. Choose COOL suns or you will cook.
3) FTL Drive - This will increase your jump range and allow you to add more weight to your ship for weapons, armor, cargo, etc.
4) Thrusters - With a heavier ship you may need thrusters with an optimal weight to closer match yours. A heavy ship doesn't turn well at a decent speed.
5) Reactor - At this point, I needed more power for all of my systems in my Sidewinder. In my current Viper, I actually got a reactor right after the power distributor.

Depending on your play style, you may want to invest in armor and/or shields, although I'd recommend doing that only with a Viper or Cobra (for dog fighting and defense). The Sidewinder is so weak, you'll want to run and jump away before getting into a fight even with stronger armor and shields. Also, the Sidewinder is EXTREMELY sensitive to weight gain. 5.0 tons of armor will cut your jump range down significantly.

With all that being said.....never fire upon me. I will kill you.

Have a nice day Commander.

what is most profitable to choose ?

It's really not that simple, which is a testament to the depth of the game. What is "most profitable" will be determined by your intended use and methods. For example, if you want to mine and maximize profitability, then you would:
- Get a hauler
- configure multiple bay refinery module
- outfit mining laser
- configure additional cargo holds

what is most profitable to choose ?
Don't choose your playstyle based purely on what is most profitable. Just do what interests you the most, the profit is there no matter what you do. No doubt there is an "optimal" profession, but that's not what the game is about. This is Elite, you are the master of your own destiny :p

I immediately rushed for FSD and a good fuel scoop, personally, since I wanted to get lost in deep space and explore the murky depths of the galaxy. If you want to trade, then additional cargo bays and maybe a better FSD would be your choice. For bounty hunting, you'll want a better Power Distributor, weapons, etc, and maybe a Kill Warrant Scanner. You get the picture. Choose your own goals, and upgrade the things that will help you do that. Don't make the mistake of thinking that the game is something that can be "beaten" and that there is a best way to play it. Just do whatever is fun for you, any activity in the game is profitable. :p

what is hauler? i could not find it in outffting in any section

Well it's a ship but yes, you'll find Haulers in the same place as Eagles.

A hauler is a good route if you want to try trading or maybe mining as a step to make more cash for the next ship, which if you enjoyed the mining and trading might be an Adder...

If you prefer combat, maybe go for the Eagle and upgrade it and work toward a Viper as the next step.

I think the balancing is pretty good right now and there's no one ship that's good at everything. I have different ships for different roles.

the landing in this game drive me crazy i can not get it.. i did the tutorial and i sucsses. when i try each frken time land exactly at marks range exactly inside the center with red circle.. it still does not work i dont get that menu when u dock at station u usally get... i dont get it

1. Make sure your landing gear is down
2. Make sure you are at the right landing pad
3. Always be facing the pad number with the raised ramp behind you

I upgraded all my internals to the next level which have less mass than the stock items. Got my jump range unladen up to 10ly. Then improved weapons to gimbled pulse, now on gimbled beam lasers. Put some extra armour on the little beast and have been doing quite well doing pick up missions (black boxes etc.) and bounty hunting.

Only destroyed once......when I ran out of fuel at an Anarchy system....and didnt have a fuel scoop.....important lesson learned!
