What Classic Games Do You Still Play?

Just a curiosity of mine!

I've recently taken a forced break from ED, due to moving, and lack of internet!

So I started messing on really old games.

The Original X-COM Enemy Unknown.

Such a classic, but damn it's hard compared to the new one!

I've been playing the OpenXcom version, designed to work with windows, and it's pretty much the same.

I've only done about 10 missions, and I've probably lost 30 soldiers already. As well as the funding from the USA. Which happens to be where my base is. Lol
I also has a particularly bad month, when 8-9 Very Large UFOs decided to roam my airspace, and my 2 poor little interceptors couldn't cope!
Chances are, I'll lose this game very quickly!

Before that, I also dug out Transport Tycoon Deluxe, well OpenTTD, it's another remake for Windows, and it's still brilliant transport empire building game.
However, no matter what I do, I still end up rolling in cash within 2 years. Lol
I rarely keep interest after 1950, due to too much cash, and hence boredom!

So, what classics have you been playing recently?

The Original X-COM Enemy Unknown.

In the UK it was known as UFO:Enemy Unknown, and it remains to this day, one of the finest tactical/strategy games ever made. Sending your interceptors after the big ships is suicide, but you can follow them with your Skyranger and do a ground assault when they land. Lots of lovely E-115, if it isn't on a terror mission.

My poorly equipped Skyranger loaded with rookies was already out. :D
It was only my third month so I didn't have the funds for a second Skyranger, or even a spare hangar for that matter.

I forgot how hard that gane is on Experienced difficulty. Lol

Assaulting a Giant UFO with a boat load of rookies is pretty suicidal too.

I also end my turn as soon as I start, to prevent the enemy doing reaction shots on my troops as the walk out, but on one mission, they just threw a grenade in... Lol

I do love X-COM, I love the remake almost equally. But the original is a bloody hard and totally unforgiving game. :D

Super Metroid
Final Fantasy VII
Castlevania Symphony of the Night
...and loads of more classics, but no space games.

Master of Orion (the original) quite often.
UFO: Enemy Unknown and Rally Trophy occasinally.

And when an old friend pays a visit, we usually have a session of Emlyn Hughes International Soccer, on a real C64 or if feeling lazy, on emulator. :)

Very often fire up a ZX Spectrum emulator or DOSBOX for classic gaming. I play too many titles to mention, but Elite on the Spectrum is one of them.

See my avatar :)

Also, I run through Ocarina of Time at least once a year and like to chop it up in some old school Smash Bros on the N64. I play through the NES Legend of Zelda now and again, too.

I play loads of them, even got my own MAME arcade booth

I play Frontier Elite II quite regularly along with
Heroes of might and magic 3
Pirates! (A500 version)
X-com games
Lotus II Turbo challenge (A500 version)
Black Tiger (arcade)
Wonder Boy in Monsterland (arcade)
Dark Seal (arcade)
The Punisher (arcade)

too many to list really

I like my games strong on the SIM aspect, or very game`y be it a great arcade title or a turn based strategy game
I don`t enjoy the modern movie wanna be "no games" where gameplay is just an intermission between cutscenes... also many genres got bad during the transition to 3d.

Various card and board games, I do try the odd classic computer game but quite frankly they do not age as well as card and board games.

Snap. I have twin 6 button home made cab with arcade trackball in the middle. Build from ground up as therapy when split from ex wife. Told new wife if she leaves i already have plans for digital pinball table drawn up...... i hope it never comes to it but every cloud etc etc etc :D

Dungeon Master, the Monkey Island series, and recently discovered that Wings has been "remastered". That has me pointlessly moving the throttle on my HOTAS. The A500 - what a time and what a machine that was.

All those rounds and I still couldn't hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle

love that game, and that, along with dungeon master were the reason i paid £40 for my 512k upgrade for my A500.

money well spent (and yes i have remastered on pc. a bit gutted its achievements are broken, its one game i would actually go for all the achievements on it).

Getting a big nostalgia pang now, and want to play (in no particular order):

Rainbow Islands
Alien Breed
Mega Lo Mania
Amber (a Risk clone, done very well)
Flashback (found an abandonware version for PC, but it doesn't run well)
Pinball Dreams & Fantasies
Parasol Stars
Worms, come to think of it I have Armageddon on CD somewhere.

And many more. Incredible what they could do with less memory than one lousy app takes up on my phone.

Last year i went to an evening at the cambridge computer museum . It was bitmap bros vs sensibke software with jon hare and mike montgommery

Fabulous night and saw someone else wearing the same speedball 2 tshirt as me :)

A few months ago I unearthed my Amiga 500, and found it still works: About 15 hours of Lemmings ensued... Think I've got UFO Enemy Unknown for it somewhere, so I need to have another rummage. :)

The original Deus Ex gets a regular dust-off on the PC.
