What contributes to outbreaks and famine buckets post 2.1? (Please Michael, explain)

So I've been digging into the BGS lately, and I've learned a lot. Here's a summary of why I'm asking this:

  1. I found this dev post about the BGS, from January.
  2. According to that post, selling exploration data or food prevents famine, and selling exploration data and meds prevents outbreak. HOWEVER
  3. In the 2.1 patch notes, I found: "Additional factors now contribute towards outbreak and famine's buckets", but doesn't explain any further.

So please Michael Brookes (or any other dev), if you see this post, please please explain how you changed it exactly. I need this data. Please please please. Thank you.

And a second question, how outdated is the dev post (https://community.elitedangerous.com/node/362) exactly? I'm guessing it's still 90% accurate at least but I wanna make sure.

They obviously don't want us to know. Even when confirming that something happens, they never explain why.

exactly.

we have discussed some theories here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/193064-A-Guide-to-Minor-Factions-and-the-Background-Sim

... maybe join the discussion, collect data, and we maybe work things out.

concerning the january dev update: i give it 85℅.

there is 1 thing with is definetly wrong, and doesn't match the tabke shown in aprils BGS-livestream: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=y5DGyG6Qwvk

- illegal trade does not up a blackmarket controlling faction, but costs influence.

Thank you for that, I was able to update my spreadsheets. I'm still hoping Michael answers this post, even if it's just to say "We want players to find out on their own". I'll send him a PM if he doesn't.

The problem with that has always been how do you know for sure? BGS changes aren't dynamic, they don't occur until the tick. So you can never really know for sure if what you're attempting does or doesn't work. Because you can't know for sure if someone was opposing your efforts, or if your activity is ineffective, or if it's bugged.

I still don't get why they've always wanted this veil of secrecy with the BGS. If changes were registered instantly, then you'd at least be able to get a good idea of what works and what doesn't. As it stands now, it's a lot of guesstimation. :(

That's not the case at all. There have been streams with AMAs about the BGS (the link the guy above posted is an example), and dev posts about it (like the one I link in the OP). That's why I'm sure I will get an aswer if I ask nicely. Hell, it might have already been answered, but if it is it's probably in a 200+ page post and google has a hard time finding it, and obviously finding it manually would be impossible.

I hope you do.
While I'll agree that they've released some information, it's far from making things transparent. Plus it was a lot of begging and pleading from the community before MB started to reveal some of the inner workings of the BGS.
