Newcomer / Intro What did you do first after the sidewinder and why

And more to the point did you think it was right to skip x and to y etc or even mega fit the sidewinder. Just Curious how peoples first few days played out.

I see the Sidewinder as the 'tutorial' ship. It's flexible enough to let you try out which career path you want to go down but ultimately too limiting to do any of those careers well. You also get it back free every time you make a mistake. Its a good little learning tool.

I didn't bother pimping out the Sidewinder, just saved up for the Cobra so I went from Sidewinder to Cobra. I've tried other ships but I only feel comfortable in my Cobra so I'm busy maxing out all its modules now and saving for the Asp - we'll see if I like that when I get it.

Still got my little Sidewinder though, second favourite ship after the Cobra.

Upgraded to hauler to get better range and more cargo. That let me save for the Cobra. Bought then sold an Adder on the way to the Cobra.

I kept it to do some missions, and i sold my freagle. When i had run a few missions in my startwinder, i upgraded to a Hauler. Then i started exploring. Still exploring. Although i do a bit of combat between journeys just to spice things up.

I play slowly. I'm in no rush to get to the big ships since I thought I would never get enough credits. So I upgraded a lot on my hauler before I sold it. TBH I buy and sell my ships quite a lot. Depends what I feel like doing. Only thing I've stopped selling is my Cobra.

I still have my original sidewinder, upgraded to 'C' mostly. When I could afford it I bought a hauler.

At the moment I have my Sidewinder which I use to scout trade routes, an Adder for exploration, a Viper, and a Cobra for haulage.

So far... Sidewinder, Hauler, T6, Cobra

I use the Cobra for exploring, I was going to use the Hauler for exploration but I just hated the windscreen, no explorer feel to it at all.

I have not done any bounty hunting or fighting yet, other than to learn to run. I'm looking forward to eating through a few Vipers someday soon but have not decided how I want to set up to do that, at the moment I just use keyboard and slowly incorporating voice attack. Fighting is going to take a bit of practice if I just stick with keyboard.

I really kind of liked the feel of flying the T6. Slow turning and not very accurate but it made landings inside dock fun. With high level FSD, thrusters, power etc... the T6 flies quite nicely and is fairly quick and can be a joy to fly.

When I first got into a stock Cobra after flying the very nicely kitted T6, I was not that impressed, but after upgrading the Cobra with a very nice exploration kit it is the most accurate ship I have flown.

Seems most people went from Sidey to Hauler but I found that to be a pointless step. Max out your cargo on the Sidewinder and found a 1k/ton 1-jump route and you'll make it to the Cobra so fast there's no reason for the Hauler. Personally I went Sidey -> Cobra -> T6 -> Eagle (for fun) -> Viper. Once I had the T6 every load is bringing in 150k-200k for a 1-jump route it's easy to afford the lower ships and fitting them up to A-class. Once I had a comfortable enough pile'o'money I hopped in the Viper and haven't left her yet. Though the infinite spawn glitch fix is gonna suck.

I'm a beta backer so when gamma 1.0 went online I startet to head over to my freegle and the sold the sidey and used that to work my way up doing all kinds of playing stiles from mining over exploring and tradind to bounting hunting...

the first ship I bought was the cobra then the viper and then the type6 transporter whitch I later sold and bought a type 7 the latest ship i bought is the asp witch now is fully upgraded just like all the other ships I have.....

I don't regret anything I've done ingame not even those mistakes whitch cost me my ship so I had to collect on my insurrence because they are learning experience to me so there is no reason to regret anything in this game... :)

anyway this is my purchases so far in the game... Next please :D

I started upgrading my Sidey as soon as I had the funds. A few A modules: power plant and power distributor. Some C class modules: Shields and thrusters. Then did bounty hunting till I had enough for a Viper and some upgrades. I'm still Bounty Hunting and upgrading its modules, but when I'm done I plan on going back to my Sidey and max it out.

I kept the Sidewinder for a long time and upgraded it to the max.
I felt it was the best and cheapest way to learn to handle a ship in ED and get to know my new X-55 HOTAS.
And the Sidewinder is great fun to fly and do combat in.
Never regretted my decision.

After that I went for the Viper and stuck with that for a long time, because I thoroughly enjoyed bounty hunting.
Then I tried the Cobra for a while, but I preferred the Viper for combat and could make money bounty hunting just as fast as hauling cargo in the Cobra, while having a lot more fun. So I returned to the Viper.

Next ship was the T-6. Because of its larger cargo hold I it was more lucrative hauling cargo with it than with the Cobra, so I stuck with it for a while to earn enough to buy an Asp. I am not a big fan of rather single minded cargo ships, so I was glad when I was able to buy the more versatile Asp.

Then came the T-7. A good freighter, but for me it had the same problem as did the T-6. You can't do anything else with it.

Now I have a Clipper. A much more versatile ship and I sacrificed cargo space for maximum weapons and bounty hunting equipment. I make less money trading, but have a lot more fun, because I can do bounty hunting and visit combat zones whenever I feel like it.

The only upgrade I made to my Sidewinder was the power coupling. That let me get kills by being selective on what ship I'm willing to fight, and managing power distribution during a fight. I lucked out on a couple big (20k) bounties.

I sorted the ship list by price and couldn't see a reason to upgrade until the Cobra. I will probably never be a trade mogul because I don't see a point to having millions of credits or an expensive ship that makes you invincible.

So I'll run around doing 'stuff' until I get bored. Considering how short (40 hrs?) most $60 games are, I think I've got my value already.

Sold my freagle - turned it into a better fsd, fuel scoop, disco scanner. 'Explored' my way to Sol through the unpopulated systems. :)

netted close to 100k by the time I got to Sol; docked up at Earth and turned the sidey into an adder!

So long sidey and thanks for all the fish! :D

My biggest mistake was to take my sidewinder straight to Dalton Gateway and turn it in for my Freagle.

All my rookie mistakes cost me small fortunes because I didn't stay with my starter ship.

>> Sidewinder (sold)
>> Adder (sold)
>> Viper (kept)
>> T6 (sold. Ye GODS trading is so insanely BORING)
>> Cobra (kept. LBN 623 and back with ADS and DSS scanning every system with planets of 0.8 earth mass or higher = 1 million credits, but it takes a lot of time).

I did basically what that guy did.

My Path:
Sidewinder -> Adder -> Cobra

Now I have a Cobra, a T6, and I just bought another Adder to use for mining.

OK .. but have you worked out how the other guy got a Sol permit "exploring through unpopulated systems" yet ???

yeah, adder. i sold my freagle to pay for some upgrades to the sidey, but when it was time for a better ship, i got an adder. aside from its terrible upwards view, it was a very capable little ship and i loved it. but of course that didn't stop me from upgrading later to a cobra... i now have an asp, but i am thinking of getting another cobra again
