What did you upgrade first on the Sidewinder?

Power plant, you need juice to run new toys.
Cargo and that is it, Same with Hauler (except i now keep one with a FSD A and Fuel scoop for tracking new trade areas).

I went like this:
Sidewinder > Eagle > Viper > Cobra.
I only upgrade when I have at least 50% more credits than I need to purchase the ship, that way I can immediately outfit it with better equipment and have enough left over to insure it.
As far as weapons go, use what you feel works better.
Energy weapons deplete shields faster but do less damage to hulls, while kinetic weapons do the opposite. Energy weapons also heat up very quickly while kinetic weapons do not, allowing you to distribute more power to engines and systems while in combat.
Rail guns are a mixture of both, so they're average against both types of defense, though harder to use because they have to charge before firing which causes a slight delay. Rail gun ammunition is also expensive.
Missiles do heavy kinetic damage but are also expensive to replace. The modules that allow you to fire them are also pretty pricey.
Weapons, get some Rail Guns. With them both right in front of you, you get an awesome light show as they charge up to fire, not to mention to sound effect. Only downside is they only carry 31 rounds each

Power Plant, followed by Frame Shift Drive so I could actually jump the wide chasms.
FSD, so you can check systems further out from the traffic jam centers.
Upgrade the power coupling. Or whatever its called. Best bang for the buck. Then the reactor. Then whatever the weapons. Otherwise you will uncork your weapons and immediately be out of power. Ask me how I know.
This^ as soon as possible, in four months I don't think I have ever put an upgrade on a sidey
Not a dang thing. Used it for a couple cargo runs, to learn how to play and sold it and my eagle for an Adder, many more cargo runs and now in my Cobra. I have 3.5M into my cobra and everthing is finally B Class and things are good.
I did delivery and fetch missions until I had enough for a Hauler.

power distributor first then I swapped the exploration scanner for a 2 cannsiter cargo rack as I maybe used the scanner twice..if that. Going to upgrade her a lot more including weps and shields..up to a point, not going mental like spending 150k or anything. Everyone saying to not bother and save for the hauler but spending everything on a basic Hauler will empty your bank account so you're back to square one transporting cheap stuff for meagre profits while I can trade expensive and do risky profitable stuff in an upgraded Sidey...plus what would you prefer to drive a van or a sporty pick-up truck?
