What do I need against the Thargoids ? Where do I start ?

Hi CMDRs
I was just wondering......
Does anyone have a step by step guide on how to engage with the Thargoids?
Where to go and what technology to install .. starting with the sample taker and upgraded scanner or something ?
Seriously confused by the whole process sadly.
I can see all the new components we can buy on Founders,
but how many slots should I sacrifice to properly protect myself against shutdowns and Erosion.
I have seen the YouTube Videos and it looks interesting but it seems to involve items I have never installed or tested.

Hopefully a guide along the lines of:

1...Go to Engineer and Pickup this
2...Go to Founders and Install this this and that...
3...Get a sample and upgrade scanner
4...Install shutdown inhibitor
5...After initial encounter go get Guardian tech at this location and install

I know I am simplifying this significantly but that is EXACTLY what I am hoping to achieve.
Think of it as a BLONDES guide to Elite and the Thargoids.
