I want to do a video log this year, but I know nothing about capturing video on PC.

Is there anything I need? Hardware, software, etc.? And will recording affect performance?

Equipment
Any mic will work including headset mics but a USB Condensor mic will give you that good radio quality sound.

I'm using a TurtleBeach StreamMic currently. Cheap but good quality

Putting it on a boom arm will get it close to your face without being in the way. Also it will pick up less vibrations.

Recording:
I would suggest getting OBS to record. Its free and has a lot of great features. I currently use it for both videos and streaming. Fantastic stuff.

If you want to get started that's all you'll really need. Hardware wise it will depend on the project, your budget, how serious you wanna take it.

For most of my videos I use voice overs as well. For this I use Audacity. You can really make the audio sound great with this.

Editing
If you want to do more than just record and upload, you'll need editing software.

I personally am a huuuuuuge fan of HitFilms. This software can do almost anything you can think of doing.

Performance

Recording could affect performance if you're running on min specs but usually its fine.

Let us see what you make! I'd love to see it!
