What do i need? What do i sell? What do i use?

One thing i havnt figured out yet...
There are so many new Materials, but no way to know what is just for Credits, and what is for Engineering.

Nowhere does it say that not all Goods are for selling, as Schematics are in there too, and they are vital parts for most Upgrades.
Components? Some of them are used, some of them are not. How do i figure it out?
Data? Again, most of it is trash for Credits, but some is used.

And to make it even worse...not every usable Material is listed in the Barkeeper Trades.

Is it just me, or is it really bad Design?

It's bad design, really bad design
And is not like FD weren't gone through all this in Horizons and changed it, they had to reintroduce it again in Odyssey, so they can change it later again :/

The caps are too low
And there is no trading for Goods or Data

I mean, what they were thinking?

Yeah, Horizons is perfect as it is. I collect Iron, its not in my Cargo Bay, its in my Materials -> Its for Engineering. And not just that, it shows the Rarity too.

Some of the Prices are fine. 100k for a Power Regulator? Ok, neat. Buuuut its not only used for Upgrades, its also used to power up Bases.
There are some of those Containers where you get Chemicals and whatnot, where you can insert things again. But what? And what happens then?

Agreed, I hate not knowing what to sell and I'm gradually filling up my shared storage. It shouldn't be a shared storage in the first place and items that serve no purpose should have a special icon so we know it is vendor trash.

This will help you:

All that's left is the unlock stuff (which you can also get from Inara).

At this stage, I think it's safe to sell anything that's a mission target (so californium or whatever it's called, fossil stuff, lazarus etc). I just sold about 14m worth of loot today. Yes, the core design of loot versus materials isn't great but that's not enough to stop you working it out. Odyssey's list of "things you need" is miniscule compared to Horizons. I much prefer it.

There are still 4 more engineers to be unlocked - the list might grow
We can already see all the modules though. The only part of the list that'll grow is the unlock part, which is maybe 6 more different items (maybe less, 2 to discover, 4 to access? Hard to tell).

Thanks for that. Made a List now. It contains all the Tradable stuff and the parts that dont show up in the Bartender, but are used for Upgrades

U really wana now what they think?
I think they did becuase later they could fix it and say to us "we've listende to your fidback and did as u asked us".

Inara, linked with ED Market Connector, make the engineering/upgrading soooooo much easier.

With that, you look at any blueprint on Inara, and it'll tell you how many upgrades you can do based on your current material inventory, and it's easy to see what you're short on. I'm not 100% certain if EDMC will work perfectly with Odyssey yet, haven't tried.

yeah sure, that works, my problem is mainly with "what is trash that i dont need and that only wastes my space"

The guy who came up with the idea to have some commodities used for engineer should stop working on that kind of stuff.

It's bad.

Yeah, it's almost as if they changed the storage from global to individual mat for a reason.

Usually, when you do a mistake and fix it, you use the fix as base of any future work. Not the mistake.

Really? So where's the night vision module? Which engineer provides it? People keep talking about it, but no details (and not on inara afaict).

Specifically, https://inara.cz/equipment-blueprint/3/

They've been there for a week. My guess is they were data mined. And the names of the engineers are also known....

Just because we don't see who offers what, doesn't mean we don't know all the mats :)

I was looking at the engineers thinking that someone had been able to get an upgrade and not just got lucky with finding a modified suit.

I don't believe that Inara + EDMC is completely updated for Odyssey engineering yet --- but it is close. I do not see that Inara knows my current Odyssey material storage inventory yet. If it did, then it seems like it should work as well as Horizons's Crafting Lists, Missing Items, etc. (which is awesome if you have not tried it).

Exactly! There’s no indication on what is used. It’s like commodities and materials got mixed together, but like commodities, may sometimes be used for unlocking things, so I think the intended design is such that upgrades for weapons and armor require a combination of these commodities and materials. I haven’t participated in too much more of the new salvage mechanics, I’ve mostly been off exploring the new genomics system. The only thing that is fairly straight forward. But I’ve kept all 70 whatever this new stuff is I’ve been digging out of crash sites and what not.

Nope, I dont really think so

My Epic alt found a TK Aphelion with Improved Hip fire accuracy. Not seeing any blueprint for it
