What do RANK UP missions look like ...

Hi,

Relative newb here - have been reading for about an hour but can't figure out what a 'rank up' mission looks like.

I am trying to get to Baron for the Empire so that I can get that Imperial Clipper.

I did a bunch of missions on Monday night and selected the INF+++ and REP+++ missions when I got to choose. I am now 100% Allied and 100% Master. There is a little blue triangle but I don't know what that means. So i did the same thing last night ... took 10 x REP+++ missions and 10 x INF+++ missions - but nothing changed.

It looks like it means that I can go up a rank ... but I need to do a rank up mission ... but I am not sure where they are or what they are named. Do they say 'complete for rank increase' or something?

Thanks.

Cheers Dave

PS - can I buy an Starbase or something so I can drop tonnage at it and then use a M landing space ship to ferry it to the smaller base?

Rank Progression missions have "Imperial/Federal Navy..." in the title. They are only issued from factions that are affiliated with the Empire or Federation, denoted by the Imperial or Federal logo on the faction's header bar in the mission selection UI. They can also be held back if you don't have enough reputation with the local faction issuing the mission, so it helps to look for them at friendly stations.

Only the REP reward affects your rank progression, by the way. The INF affects the back-ground simulation and adds to that faction's influence in the system. Any progression you're making with regular missions while looking for a rank up mission still contributes toward your next rank as well.

The blue triangle indicates an increase in REP or INF for completion of the mission; it can also be red for instances where you've lost REP or INF (like failing or abandoning the mission.)

And no, there are no starbases players can buy. Everything is completed ship by ship, and not every station/base has a large landing pad for the larger vessels.

Welcome to the black, and fly safe commander.

It's never been quite obvious to me how I could do an action that increases a factions influence, and by doing so that doesn't have an equal effect on my reputation... But that's the way FDev have coded it I suppose.

As mentioned, look for "Imperial Navy ..." in the name. This is the mission that will be the rank up one you seek. Do note few things tho:
- they are RNG dependent and may take a while one to pop
- they DO NOT pop up right after you meet the rank up requirements
- check UNAVAILABLE section of mission board, what you seek may be there but you may not be eligible to take it (like ship too large or insufficient cargo)

Also - focus on REP reward option, leave INF and choose this if there's no REP option at all. Usually you should avoid no REP rewarding missions - generally it's better to take any REP mission, even low paying than the one with INF.

Another note - tho it can take a while for rank up mission to pop, you don't loose your rank progress. It means while you face a dead end you'll still amass reputation toward next rank. It's not uncommon to spend days doing missions and not seeing rank up mission and then bursting through 3-4 ranks, one after another, within 15 minutes that take doing those 4 runs. Speaking from experience as it happened to me.

Nope.

If you want to haul cargo to M-pad only destination you need to pick M-pad or smaller ship for the job and make several runs instead of doing it in a one go in L-pad sized ship. The only other way is to feed off of friends - someone with large cargo bay accompany you and drop the cargo for you to scoop and insta-deliver. This have problems on it;s own so short answer is - you can't.

... and the most important info: they appear in the TOP section of the mission area (with the follow up missions everyone ignores). When you look in the mission details it will tell you the rank it grants.

Thanks all for the replies. You guys and gals are the BOMB (that's a good thing - means you are great in ye olde english). I checked the Imperial Navy mission and opened the mission briefing and right down the bottom - it said something like 'rank progression - squire' - which I had never seen before (as I hadn't scrolled to the bottom of the window before.

So I did the mission and I am now a Squire.

And the user that suggest cargo dumping ... I am teh badz with the cargo scoop ... I end up destroying more cargo than I collect. So that might be a no. lol
