The stars next to animals names, what do they mean and how are they gained?

I believe thats animal fame. I'm not sure how it exactly works, but over time, I guess, the animal gains fame. I believe it factors species fame, and the alpha of the group. Probably if the animal had won many fights, and survived, it will become famous.

I believe they are gained by your animals reproduction and by your animals fighting. Also, better genes is likely a factor.

Game has a different language setting to me, not using the proper in-game words most likely will confuse you.. In short: They increase by taking good care of your animal and have influence on attracting visitors.(1 of 3 influences)

I thought he was talking about the rating stars, not the ribbons for animal ranking in terms of stats and rarity.
