Newcomer / Intro What do the red and blue arrows mean

Hi again, apologies for the ton of questions recently

Could someone please explain from the screenshot below what the red and blue arrows and data are telling me? i have seen this on most ships and am not sure if they are indicating a weakness that i need to fill with a module.

also while on the subject of ships what would be my next logical ship purchase for general bounty hunting smuggling etc, still in solo game mode and still learning so if i dumped the sidewinder would i get adder cobra viper?

thanksView attachment 66747

As I understand it they are the stats of the new ship compared with the one you currently own, so the Hauler has a slower speed both normally and boost , is slightly less manouverable and has less armour than your ship , but has a greater range , better shields and a higher carrying capacity , I havent done much Bounty hunting myself but the cobra is a good all round ship can carry cargo and fight , some people would say for pure fighter then probably a Viper

Viper is pure combat. Adder and Cobra are both multi-purpose, with the Cobra being better. However, fully outfitting a cobra costs ten million, many times more than fulle outfitting a Cobra. If your funds are limited, I'd go with the Adder. From about one million up the Cobra becomes a viable choice.

While we're talking about the arrows, I guess I'll bring up equipment.

Why do some stats on equipment show a blue/red arrow despite having seemingly the same amount of stat (I most often see it in the damage/DPS stats)? For example, one gun might have 2 blips for DPS and shows a red arrow compared to another gun that also has two blips for dps.

Hey lufia22,

Don't take my answers for granted because am fairly new myself but it seems that while on those data screens we have 1-10 scale, underlying numbers can be different.
On top of that you have to take a module/gun size into effect.
E.g.
Small hardpoint multicannon will have lower dmg that medium hardpoint multicannon.
And while both may show same number of "ticks" on this scale you refer to, underlying numbers will be different.

OK, oversimplified version: so Blue is better, red is worse.

More detailed:
In the shipyard it is comparing the new ship with your current ship, but the kicker is that it compares the basic ship in the ship yard with your current ship that is almost certainly upgraded. For example you have a Grade A3 shield on your current ship and the new basic ship has an E3 so the shipyard shows a red arrow. But if you upgrade the new ship to A4 shield (or in some cases even A3) then it may have a better shield than you current ship! Not at all confusing...

In equipment load out it is usually down to rounding errors. KWS range went up in 0.5km steps but up to 1.3 it was displayed in the equipment screen in whole km so you would get a red or blue arrow as they were different but one screen would display them as the same value.
