What do YOU do in Elite?

I wanted to know what others do in the world of Elite. What do you find fun or what makes the game fun for you?
I like the game, but I'm having trouble bring myself to play it. When I do, I sit with controller in hand, looking at the screen thinking...What should I do.

I browse the ships I have...maybe looking at them will spark a idea. Nothing.
I don't feel like running around for the Engineers until the next patch.
To nice of a guy to pirate...alone at least.
I've been waiting forever for a Combat Zone CG.

Thoughts?
Comments?
Ideas?

I've tried a bit of everything apart from pirating. i seem to change my job every time a log on. last night was ranking missions but who knows tonight might drag my mining clipper out for a few hours.

Mission running?

Also try to role play. For example let's say you want to spread Alliance into Independent systems. So you look for Alliance factions who are expanding and help them.

Or you are white knight who want to eradicate piracy from anarchy systems. Then you take missions from other factions to damage piracy main faction in a system.

I like surface scavenging lately, its quite profitable sometimes. I find mining very relaxing. Bounty hunting if I've got the energy LOL. Sometimes i look for something interesting on the galaxy map, something a few hundred ly away, head straight for it and see what i find on the way. Occasionally I'll take a mission but I'm not a huge fan of missions. And the occasional trade route can be fun, especially if i meet a few psycho npc's on the way.

Most often I casually play the BGS, I am bit by bit working for a faction. I'm not involved with an organized player group and I don't go at it for efficiency. I look at their missions and let that initially guide my activity for the evening, if nothing catches my eye then I'll go to a RES and blow up ships from the other factions, or poke around in signal sources, or salvage stuff, and then buzz around to stations where they have a presence or control and turn in the bounties and sell the goods. Nothing too intense or focused, but one of the things I like most about ED is interaction with a galaxy in flux.

Lately? Die a lot. Run a lot. Can't be bothered to play anymore a lot.

Before that I had fun trading and doing the odd mission with some planet side expo thrown in.

I do like the irony that the missions are now fixed but get you either owned or dicted 10+ times making them no worth taking. Broken or Not worth it... It's a tough call. :)

Personally, I am just waiting and reading the Oolite novels written by Drew Wagar.

I am waiting for two things:

1. Patch which will finally get rid of the interdictions bug or bad game mechanic.
2. Patch which will rebalance the drop rate of materials on planets (SRV rock shooting) to approx. the same level as let's say salvaging materials from ships or wake scanning.

I am playing with the idea of some deep space exploration in my Anaconda, but firstly I will wait for those patches and my successfull Grade 5 FSD range update, so I will be able to explore in normally outfitted Anaconda and not only in some paper made ship.
I really do not like the idea of specialised ship which is not able to boost and have no weapons etc. Somehow it breaks my immersion into "Go where no one was before" deep space exploration.

For fun I hit the high RES, for relaxation I cruise at minimum supercruise speed, wait for signals sources and jump in to see what little surprises await.

I had similar feelings in 2.0. Just stare at the screen and think "ok, what to do?"
Despite it's flaws, 2.1 has given the game a jolt of life for me.
I've mainly been running missions, along with trying to play the BGS a bit. Along with a sprinkling of CG's occasionally.

Mining isn't bad, I just hate refitting my Python for the 10th time

Mission running?
I have a few ideas I working on to make surface mission go faster. Never got around to testing it.
Guess its time to start. I could also work on my Empire rank.

I do mostly CGs, though currently I'm trying to get access to all engineers and get them to grade 5 access. Afterwards it's time to tune my ships. And this is what I enjoy in the game the most. Getting and finetuning the best ships for whatever job is at hand.

Where did you get the idea missions are fixed?

Better, maybe? Fixed, no.

There are several other cheaper ships that make fantastic miners when you get the itch. The T6 and T7 come to mind, the AspX, Keelback (a little tougher than the T6) and Cobra IV are also excellent.

I play the BGS. Mainly combat oriented, so murdering NPCs and bounty hunting. I've done a few missions and rolled the dice with the engineers. Stockpiled too many materials.

I personally like forcing PVP/Pirates who announce to the world that they only play in open as should everyone else.... into solo/private care bear land.

The issue I have with those ships are when I'm attacked by a NPC.

I wanted to know what others do in the world of Elite...

I keep it fresh by doing a bit of everything. Yesterday, I mined metallics. The day before I was doing surface combat missions. Tonight I'll be running salvage missions -- as many as I can pick up and run.

I recently moved on from a contested system that I had spent a lot of time in, trying to help prop up one of the contenders. That was fun, but I wanted to take on more missions and be closer to some minable rings, so I moved.

I'm going to have to visit the engineers someday. I just haven't gotten around to it yet. Sometimes I get the bug to explore, so maybe when I do I'll strike out in their direction(s).

Sometimes I just hop in my combat rig and look for trouble. It just depends on what I feel like doing on any given day, really. I'm in no rush :)

I roleplay as a criminal.

I support my anarchist faction through the BGS, smuggle stuff, pirate things, raid convoys, have shoot-outs with the police...

All good clean fun :)
