Newcomer / Intro what do you do with your free Eagle?

Lifting off tonight. Realised from the combat training I am now rubbish at it (aah for the good old days).
Anyway, I have the Merc edition so will start out with the Sidey and Eagle somewhere.
Plan is trade and missions to get to grips with game and build up cash
So what do I do with the spare ship at the outset?

Will look at the newbie tips too but any quick wins for trade/cash appreciated.
Is it sad that I still remember the race and vaccine-drop at start of last game all those years ago??

A lot of people sell the eagle to either pimp up their SW or t oadd it toward the ship they really want to get, for example a hauler
I think I am gonna go first option tonight when I log in:souped up SW and cash in the bank

Just to add: the eagle is a better combat craft than the sidey but the sidey is more versatile, so in the beginning can be a better option

I...left mine parked in LHS 3447, because at first I was going to experiment with it after I took a short trip to Sol, and then the trip ending up being much longer than I originally planned...

Thanks guys. It just seems odd to give you a free 2nd ship with serves no more purpose than ready cash.

Oh it serves a good purpose. IF you start with combat, rather than trading, you got propably the best dogfighter in game. Downside of the freagle, it is very fragile.

Have fun.

Kept my freagle in its hanger, doing trading and whatever crops up in an Adder, going to build up some credits (hopefully) then "pimp my ride" and shoot stuff

Does the free eagle come back whenever I start a new game or is it a one time shot?

I'm a noob, my concern is I go out and get it destroyed early on and loose it for good.

I don't know how insurance works, but I probably cant afford it anyhow, with only 100 credits to start

this is a dumb question I'm sure, but whats a clear save?

Lets just say I go out and get my new eagle destroyed, how do I get it back?

If its too risky I'll just fly around in the side winder to start.

I sold mine, earned about 20k flying my Sidey then bought a Hauler. Bought a new Frame Shift Drive. Now I'm about 3 or 4 jumps from Sol. It'll be a disappointment seeing home, but it has to be done :)

this raises an interesting point.. i've gone the sell and upgrade route mainly that if I'd kept any of my ships they'd be a long way away (over 150Ly) and I can't be bothered to go and fetch them... so I sold my freagle, traded until I could buy a hauler then a cobra and now in a type-6 with some serious kick ass upgrades (A class fuel scoop and FSD, B class sensors and thrusters etc). The only downside of a type 6 is it's only got 2 hardpoints...so it's either mining or weapons... :)

I never picked it up, it's still sitting there gathering dust. I might give it a whirl if I ever head back over there, but for now it can stay there.

A clear save means you restart from zero. You perform it under Options. You restart with only the sidewinder, the freagle and a sum of credits

I'm using mine, saved up 60k doing missions/bounties and fitted it with a better jump drive, a third weapon, power planet, etc. My rebuy cost is still only like 4k.
I also heard that yes, it's less versatile than the Sidewinder, and harder to fly - but I figure these things will just make me a better pilot.
Also, I like the cockpit more than the Sidewinder.

I immediately dumped the Sidey and pimped the Eagle until it could reach the Empire's core region around Achenar and Facece.

Currently putting all my money into better equipment for my baby...

Twin gimballed multicannons under her belly and a gimballed pulse laser on her spine... I'm not a good pilot with my crappy PS3 controller, but the autotargetting helps!

My plan is to kit it out with the best available equipment in every compartment, and mainly use it for courier runs, rare cargo hauls and bounty hunting extraction sites. Once it is fully kitted out, I am using it to fight in warzones.

Since trading is broken* and probably very far from getting fixed, I will aim for the Viper next and leave the Hauler and Adder aside.

*I wanted to buy slaves for a mission, at an Independent station that was marked as "exporting" slaves. Turns out they don't even have them on their commodity market. And I don't mean they just have no supply, I mean the word "slaves" does not exist on that station's market. Same with an equally marked station in a neighboring system.

Also, the galaxy map shows me that Imperial slaves are being hauled to Cemiess, but whoever does so, makes an incredible loss. Cemiess has incredibly high demand for imperial slaves and absolutely no supply. However, the sell price at the local commodity market is about half the galactic average.

I flew my Sidey -> Hauler -> Cobra while leaving the Freagle garaged, then once I had a cash cushion, took it out and tried bounty hunting a bit. Found that was a TON of fun, although I am a trader at heart, so I took the Freagle over to a HighTech system nearby where I used my trading cash to exchange it for a Viper. Now I swap between my Cobra and my Viper depending on what I feel like doing and I'm happy as a clam.
