What do you think is the best way to make credits in game?

i think its exploring, i can go out 5000 light years while my friend high res's and i come back with 18 million and he has 3 million... what do you think?

Different strokes for different folks. I used to do smuggling runs (not Robigo, I mean in the starter systems), usually just going from place to place by grabbing BB missions. But they nerfed the BB to hell and since then I specced a ship for combat and I float around Resource Extraction Sites. Tried Rare trading routes and that brought in some decent money, and I went halfway to Sag*A once, and again, decent money. So lots of ways are viable, it's up to what you like to do.

Tbh probably the least profitable in terms of time>money is Mining and Pirating. But it's not all about making money the fastest way possible, it's about playing the game how you want and having fun of it.

I love mining, I always catch myself saying "one more rock" it's awesome.

by far the most fun in this game is combat, id have to say power play hunting in enemy territory has to be the most fun in this game because while your fighting you racking up a bounty and at any moment someone could show up and challenge you it make no money but it sure does make merits that in turn bring money in

i want to make 50 million a week with merits.... while running illegal cargo on the side

Trading. Nothing at all even comes close. Next best thing is pledging ALD, maintain rating 5 and hunt in hazres. I make 3 million every 8 minutes on my trade route. I make about 8 million every 30 minutes bounty hunting.

Trading is easiest early on.
But once you're a competent Commander, and you find a good Compromised navigation beacon, you can make several million an hour.

Exploration is good, if you have the patience. Head out deep, spend a week or two scanning unexplored systems, and return home to a FAT payday.

Robigo smuggling runs are good money, but be prepared to outfly the cops at every turn. It can also get boring.

Bounty hunting at Nav beacons & hazres sites pays well, but you need a decent combat ship and some stick & rudder skillz. Watch out for ram-scanners.

Looking through this thread we have
"Exploring!"
"Mining! It's the best"
"Combat! It's so fun."
"Trading! I make mad profit!'

I myself was keen on smuggling, but recently just stick to assassination missions. I like the hunt and interdiction over the res patrol. Sounds like you just gotta find your jam.

Exploration is low risk/minimal reward
Trading is medium risk/high reward
Combat is high risk/medium reward

I'm not quite sure what everyone is trading to get 3 million credits in 8 minutes (I'm going to guess Imperial Slaves in a Cutter, but I'm not sure), but trading is definitely the easiest way to go, even if it is mind-numbing sometimes.

Exploration is not at all the fastest way to make credits. I took a trip to Sag A* and back, and I made ~40 million credits. That trip took me probably at least 20 hours, if not double that. That works out to about 2 million credits an hour, at the absolute best. At worst (and, what I think is more realistic), it'd be at less than a million credits an hour, which is terrible. I can make 2 mil in an hour in a Haz Rez in my Vulture. I can make about the same trading in my Python, maybe a bit more now that I've upgraded the FSD and I can do my loop in 1 jump instead of 2.

Don't get me wrong. I love exploration. It's a hell of a lot of fun and I'm probably going to go back out pretty soon after Horizons drops. It's just not the most profitable enterprise in the galaxy. I genuinely feel like exploration isn't something that you should do solely for the money. It's really something that you need to want to do, otherwise you're going to go crazy.

I made most of my money early on by short range BB smuggling missions.

It seems however the best way of making money quickly is trading, if you have a ship with a large cargo capacity like an Anaconda or T9.

I am the worst at making money. It just seems to sort of slowly accumulate while I mess about doing this and that, flying here and there, shooting small things which move and scanning big things which don't

Soooooo... I should change my method of shooting big things that move and scanning small things that don't? That would explain why I'm so poor :D

I prefer BH but you're a slave to the RNG as to what spawns and how much the bounty is. This then affects your credits/hr.
Not done any exploring yet, but the same randomness is essentially in effect when you drop into an unexplored system. How many bodies are in a new system and how much are they worth? You just don't know.
The most reliable and calculable method does seem to be trading if you're kitted out properly. Unfortunately, my Vulture doesn't even have enough room for a backpack, never mind a few tons of 'involuntary workers'.
You pays your money and you takes your choc-ice.
