What do you think PZ really lacks to be a full Zoo simulation game?

I would love an online feature where you can trade with other players directly and form like a Zoo Association together. Add functions like being responsible for a certain species their studbook. Of course, totally optional.
Im unsure on this. I think it could mess with the market a bit. Like I dont have any in life friends that play this game, so would that mean I would struggle to get animals? Maybe they would have to implement certain rules ie you can only trade so many a day

I would like mechanical doors that can be opened/closed and airlock type systems...Animals are often moved from outside to inside locations in real zoos, for a number of reasons. I think the gameplay of PZ could be enhanced if you could isolate any sick animals in another area without it being boxed up and transported to a rabbit-hole building or an entire new habitat. I know it's a small thing really, but I would find it satisfying to have a network of routes and zones so that, say if a female has had a baby, we could keep/feed her and the offspring in a separated zone rather than have them be alone in their own habitat.

Big sliding doors please. Not unlike JWE.

(1) Backstage areas that matter
(2) More focus on the animals in management (food type, filtration needs)
(3) realistic animal acquisition — obvious example, you can’t just decide you want a panda in your zoo. This should ideally tie in with getting rid of maturing animals, as it does in real life.
(4) realistic habitat construction — many are made of concrete for easy cleaning, not dirt and grass.

1. Playgrounds for children to use. I would also like to see merry go round and ferris wheel. I dont get me wrong I dont want to go all planet coaster but there should be entertainment

2. Nocturnal house. A lot of animals prefer the twilight and the dark. I would love this to be a build requirement. New animals like bats and updates for the aardvarks

3. Give some tlc to exhibits. Shapes sizes customisation and greater variety of animals. I would also appreciate more management options for population controls etc

4. Advanced awards.. Why cant there be research that truly customised your zoo. For example you have the big 5 safari game animals guests will donate more to african enclosures or design a habitat with 4 or more animals you get a 30 percent education bonus. There could even be a menu where you can see your awards and I would live to display in zoo.

5. Advanced research the way I see it I want to research better efficient for power and water. More effective education. Heck one I really liked was research greener cleaner transport to the zoo will mean guests when they arrive happier with more money.

6. Better workshop control. We are guilty I am sure of downloading everything. I and it's hard to organise and edit and manage. And ultimately find lol.

These are just some ideas

For me I think the focus has always been too much on building and not enough on zoo management. The management always seemed too easy to me and they have things like diseases that in franchise mode don't really seem to do anything. I don't think I've ever imported a diseased animal in franchise into my zoo and so long as you keep things clean every animal stays healthy. Give me drama and things to sort out.

I'd also like to see more focus put on the animals in terms of them acting and feeling like individuals - a lot of the time they do feel like props. More things like animals having opinions on others in the group leading to different behaviours (including occasional fights just because they hate each other). Animals having favourite foods and toys. Animals having opinions on other species in the habitat or the guests. Just make them feel more real and less like replaceable props. Animals in zoos in real life, especially intelligent ones, absolutely have distinct personalities.

You nailed it. I am craving for an update that would change or add to the management aspect of the game.

Managing your zoo is just too easy, and therefore it becomes meaningless. I'm all for having different difficulties of playing, but I'd like to have challenges - I want things to go wrong and then trying to figure out how to fix them. The following things apply mostly to franchise and challenge mode.

1. Money/CC - it is absurdly easy to earn money/cc even in hard mode. And that's even without changing the salaries of employees, giving animals tier 3 food and keeping shop prices as they are. Once you get to a certain point you're practically playing sandbox.

2. Animal interactions/personalities - a requested feature is animal personalities which would add another layer(s) of animal management (e.g. find a suitable mate for your aggressive Bengal tiger) and habitat design (e.g. you have a very shy ostrich that needs lots of hiding spots)

3. Animal availability - you can practically have a giant panda right out of the gate. That's...not how it works. Obtaining animals is just too easy, and if you have amassed enough cc you can afford to buy pretty much anything. Animals should be locked behind completing certain tasks.

4. Research - as of now, research is just kind of there. You drag your vets to the animals you want to research and just let them do their thing, and voila, after 15 minutes you know everything about the reticulated giraffes. I don't really have an idea how to better this area of the game, but I'm sure some improvements could be made. (the same goes for mechanic research)

5. Specialized Keepers/Educators - I would love to see this. You have a keeper who works with the lemurs. After sending them to a very expensive program, now they become Lemur Keeper Tier 1 (for example it would go up to Tier 3 which would be the most experienced keeper). Not only you had to earn money for the training, but your keeper is now locked to lemurs and cannot take care for, lets say, Bengal tigers. But now also your lemurs are happier because their care has improved because they have a specialized keeper. Same would be for educators.

These are just some things of the top of my head. I love to build, but the building side of the game is so fleshed out compared to the management side, and I'd love to see more improvements for those who play franchise/challenge mode.

Things I have never mentioned before - cable cars/gondola, new transport models and long monorail trains with forward facing seats :D (just tricking - I might or might not have mentioned these things before) - and windowed transport versions for all the cold climates in game - seriously, I live in the semi tropics and would be just too cold in these windowless transport rides in games in the colder biomes in the game. (shiver me timbers) 🌴⛄🌬️💨☔🚡🚠🚝🚈🚂🚟🚋

Customable building like JWE2, why we don't have this options? Would greatly reduce the frustration of not having many useful building pieces, the time dedicated to construction would be less and the focus can be shifted rightly to animals, those who should be the real stars of the game!

Making management decisions by delegating tasks to personnel, with specific instructions.

This is a key aspect that is sadly missing from planet zoo, which makes this a very tedious game to play when it comes to management. Because I don't feel like an effective zoo manager. I feel like manager that doesn't know how to delegate. And that's a bad manager.

Example:

A zoo keeper is assigned to a habitat. I should be able to task this assigned keeper with easy instructions, such as:
  • Sell (quick sale) juvenile animals with xxx traits when they become adults.
  • Move to storage juvenile animals with xxx traits when they become adults.
  • Release to wild juvenile animals with xxx traits when they become adults.

You, the zoo manager, make the decisions. Your personnel execute your wishes.

This will allow you to focus on building the zoo of your dreams, with many different habitats, without pausing every second because you need to have eyes everywhere and take care of menial tasks. No! You have people for that. Whenever a problem pops up, you will be notified and make decisions accordingly. This will allow you a much more pleasant experience building and developing your zoo.

And whoever enjoys all these menial tasks can still do them: just don't give your personnel any specific instructions. 😉

I agree with you!
There are exhibit animals, such as insects, which obviously have an excessively large exhibit to be in.
I hope that one day we can also have exhibits made up of 2-4 squares in size that can accommodate small mammals, for example, but this will almost certainly remain a dream.

Also, I don't understand a thing. Why, if you have decided to introduce exhibit animals in the initial game, only 1 of them is released at each release of a new pack? Why should they be under-represented? Why should the logic of maximum earnings with minimum effort prevail if fans have bought all the packs widely?
These insects literally have a bigger livingspace then i have, so yeah kinda wacky when people want even bigger exhibits

But yes in general, planet zoo is an amazing builder and a sucky management game.
You know what i would love?
If we one day could reach a game where you could load a prebuild, nice zoo, have all building disabled and could just have fun managing it.
Be it managing your employees, their workzones and specalisation, the way you purchase animals, having them go into quarantine first (the op cheater center disabled ofcourse) and slowly introducing them to the other animals, be it just putting the new reindeer in the habitat and watch how its a loner at the start but slowly gets integrated into the group or having the new bear in a seperate backstage enclosure where they can interact through the fence without potentionally mauling each other or even just seperating the new mom and her babys from the group so that daddy cant eat his babys.
Add more interesting management for prices both in shops and tickets, maybe some light marketing, regular check ups for your animals at the vet, the possible for them tp get injured, be it that a guest through glass into the habitat, poor habitat building or just plain unlucky. Imagine the event that getting your tiger to the dentist because of a bad tooth could be.
And you know the best about all of this?
This spiced up my creativity and problemsolving so that i now want to build a zoo with some nice backstage areas.
Oh and roads! Making backstage roads or usable visitor paths neccessary to transport the bigger animals.
And you know the best part?
You could make all of this just toggleable in the options, so if you dont even need to interact with the parts that arnt fun for you and just tedious.
Win win win

For insects they are very big,I agree. The possibility of having larger exhibits would be fabulous for many small mammals, for example the armadillos, the genet, the tamarins...but unfortunately I strongly doubt that this possibility will be introduced, considering then the attention that each new pack is given to the exhibit animals, just 1 for each pack...

Want my hot take?
Exhibits are hyper boring, they go against everything good in the game and highlight the bad. There management is tedious, but braindead, the animals are literal props that cant even move, are way, way to big and have near 0 Customizing.
Exhibits are as close to trash this game gets by design and if people like them cool and for what they are they are acceptable, but who in their right mind would small animals like monkeys, squirrels and the like as unmoving props in a 4x4x4 block instead of in a habitat, something proven possible by both the meercat and prariedog.
Only good thing would be that modders could just easily slap the modell on a rig so we could have them in the game propper, but why couldnt frontier do it in the first place then?

Folks have already mentioned some things I agree on.

Petting zoos and playgrounds

A veterinary area where people can look in on Veterinary staff administering treatments (non gory, non stressful ones, of course) and a young animal nursery or recovery area. Many zoos have this sort of thing.

More behind the scenes props, including hoses and so on that keepers use to clean habitats and walkways

More adaptability with keepers and animals regarding weather and so on. i.e. not feeding warm weather animals outside when it is snowing etc.

Small mammal indoor exhibits that allow a blend of habitat and exhibit features and with scaled down landscaping and enrichment items that don't dwarf the animals and take up all the space in a small area.

Carousels that work

Golf carts for staff

Some distinctive personality traits for animals

Aviaries (of course)

More flexicolor options for flora and building pieces

More shop variety and a more realistic variety of gift shop items that can be displayed (with guests who carry their plushies or gift bags around)

Guests wearing more biome appropriate clothing?

Animal shows in ampitheaters or with educators who actually have some animals temporarily out of their habitat or exhibit (done ethically, of course, not forced performances)

More flexibility with exhibit size.

Of course, everything should be done much better to implement these changes and as it is a really big change I highly doubt it will be introduced in the game, sadly...

Yeah besides of maybe different sizes i doubt that aswell, so its baffling to me when people want perfectly fine habitat animals locked in their glassboxes
