what do you think would be some cool things to add to elite?

I think the ability to buy an apt on a space station or to build an outpost on an asteroid or planet and start a business or a base of operations would be awesome.

  1. PG local system history/genealogy/culture/taboos/customs
  2. PG dialogue/story engine
  3. Speech recognition/synthesis engine with PG voice mixing (HMM-based? NN?)
  4. PG mission generator with competition and chaining of missions into story arcs (see #2).
  5. PG NPCs with persistence and unique psychology (motivations etc). This could be informed by race/locale/family (see #1)
  6. Programmable multi-role sensor drone with the ability to patrol regions, orbit POIs and follow the deploying pilot, to provide richer exploration gameplay generally, monitoring areas to aid in stealth gameplay, data recording capabilities for espionage missions.
  7. Trading analysis tools in-game
  8. Intra-system hyperspace "hops" between in-system nav beacons (large distances only, within a set nav beacon radius only, higher risk of misjumps compared to hyperspace jumps)
  9. Programmable ship computer based on a VM with API data and ship UI elements, that runs player-submitted apps
  10. Browsable pilot combat history
  11. Codex for in-depth local system info (see #1)
  12. PG human and lifeform generation
  13. PG ship hull variants
  14. Ironman Mode

1 mill cr/ton rare minerals on the other side of the galaxy, so explorers could actually bring something valuable back home.

1. Major system damage (e.g. dock to a coriolis station without rotation control due to damage after a dogfight...or landing without landing gear...or damage in vent system causing overheating...and so on...)
2. Battle with big ships (e.g. star wars empire star destroyer)
3. Recovery system for those who are lost in space with no fuel, under big payment (close to rebuy cost but without losing cargo or exploration data) and with few hours waiting to avoid the self-destruction
4. Possibility to have your owned ship delivered in different station to avoid long travel (e.g. I ask the delivery of my asp today and tomorrow it will be available...)
5. padlock view for those without headtracking device (e.g. single push of reset headlook will reset head look, holding the same button will lock the eyes on selected target)
6. Autopilot for long travel (with higher chance of interdiction so you will not be able to be afk for too much time)
7. Complex maneuvres (like flight refuelling in flight sim...e.g. for those without fuel scoop)
8. Different hud (maybe not one for each ship but for one for each constructors zorg-lakon etc...)

Cargo, that when jettisoned after armed robbery from a pirate, arms a high explosive "anti tamper, anti scoop" device. Immediately it's scooped (stolen) you can watch the lovely explosion as the criminal gets his reward!

The wings 1.2 update introduces some interesting possibilities. For example, in many MMOs (like Warcraft) there are missions (quests) that require players to work as a team to achieve a goal where the payoff is far greater than any single mission.

Hopefully FD will introduce missions to take out a large ship that is defended by many fighters. The payoff for such a group-mission should be ten times what we'd get for a regular kill-mission.

This would both promote group work and make bounty hunting a well paid endeavour. It may also encourage more players to make the move from solo to open.

As long as the find-a-group-for-this-mission mechanic is solid and easy to use, it could be a winner.

A few things

Having your stored ships transported to another system for a fee CR/LY. Which could also generate ship transporter missions for CMDRs with ships that are big enough to carry them out. General ship transport missions for factions could also be created.
.
For example, a Type 9 with 500T capacity could carry 35 Haulers, 20 Sidewinders, 14 Adders, 10 Eagles, 8 Vipers or 2 Cobras based on the Max hull weight of each ship not its size. Ships would be partially dismantled for transport to take up a more uniform space inside the transporter (this way, even a Type 6 with 100T capacity could transport a Viper). Depending on how much cargo the proposed Panther Clipper is made to carry, it might be the one for transporting the larger vessels.
.
How this could work: A CMDR requests a ship to be transported. an NPC mission is created to do the actual job while a bulletin board mission for the same journey is created for a CMDR to take. The mission could be posted at the storage station for any length of time as it has no actual bearing on the NPC mission. The mission time should be a reasonable length based on the economic route between the two systems (the requester would have been told the same amount at the time of the request). This is to encourage the pilot to do the job with priority and so prevent them from meandering around wasting time with someone else's precious ship on board.
Failure to complete the mission would mean a fine for breach of contract and a rep hit at originating storage station (the mission is essentially from the station as it is acting as an agent for the originating CMDR) and/or the cargo being turned into *STOLEN* scrap incurring the added difficulty of disposing of it at a station and an extra fine for illegal dumping if they try to eject it.
.
Having two separate missions ensures the originating CMDR get his ship regardless of whether the bulletin board mission is picked up. But if it is, what the transporting CMDR does or doesn't do with it will not impact on the other CMDR.
.
Escort missions (also as a by product of above) Excuse me if they exist already, I've not seen any.
.
Ability to change the HUD colour (orange is really starting to grate!).
.
That's all for now
.
Cheers
Colin
