Hardware & Technical What do you use to record and edit videos?

I was using shadowplay to record small clips for an exploration montage and after getting a lot of decent footage, I found out that the mp4 type doesn't play nice with adobe premiere, all I have is a green screen with audio on import. I thought I might be able to convert them to avi but virtual dub has a similar problem with mp4's. I tried fraps but the size output of short clips is insane (5gigs for 30 seconds? Ughhh) and 60fps recording introduces stutters and artifacts. Help a fellow cmdr out :(

try bandicam useful progra m and converts to mp4 on the fly while recording in full 1080p.. adobe premier has no problems importing the files either

I use Shadow Play but just enable in-game audio only. I record my mic separately using Audition. Cut and edit using Premiere.

Are you sure the MP4 videos are not corrupt?

I have had no problems importing video that shadowplay creates. What happens when you play the video back with a regular media player?

EDIT: Other tgan that, download handbrake and use that to convert the video into something Premiere can use.

Since shadowplay has never worked for me at all (GTX 680 user), I used OpenBroadcaster until W10's Xbox app for recording, and I switched from Vegas to Windows Movie Maker in the upgrade as well.

Adobe Premiere Elements 12. It's what I got this laptop for but keep getting sidetracked with games like this. Damn those Steam sales all to hell! Lol

OBS for recording - used to use Sony Vegas pro a couple of years back, but never edited any recording of ED (I only upload videos because it's less effort than upoading an undistorted screenshot using the rift).

I'm using Action now as it works pretty well for 50fps recordings with my ageing 7850. I always used Vegas for editing, it's great once you really get used to it.

OBS is great for 30fps on a reasonable CPU, does everything and has easy switching of modes etc.

I use OBS alot for streaming and recording. Quality is good imo.
I'm using some beta build that works great with crossfire.
I think its a high quality open software product.

MoviePlus Starter Edition is free but perhaps a little basic. VirtualDub is free & much more capable as long as you can cope with the steep learning curve. Movavi Video Editor is an inexpensive & easy to use program that has lots of features & produces good results. Beyond those you get into the better known, more feature rich, & rather more costly editing suites that may or may not suit your pocket or your needs.

The main issue with ShadowPlay is that it records in variable frame rate, not constant. This causes audio sync and importing issues in Premiere and some other editing suites, so I gave up on it a long time ago. MSI Afterburner has a ton of encoding options including NVENC (Nvidia's hardware encoder) or even raw, and you can set the frame rate to keep the file as compatible as possible. OBS is very similar in a lot of ways, and they're both free. If your machine can handle it, FRAPS will get the highest quality of course. Hasn't been updated since 2013...so who knows about Windows 10.

For editing it really comes down to personal preference I'd say. I've been using Adobe stuff for years, so naturally I went with Premiere.

AMD gaming evolved (raptr) loads with windows, always on, automatically records all my game play, (set for 10gb max on mine).
If i want a piece of recording, i just go to it after the game and easily select the part i need. Or just press F2 for a highlight clip during the game, up to 20 minutes. Just so simple to use.
Works in the background with no or little effect on frame rate.

Since I haven't noticed any Mac OS X suggestions in this thread, I'll throw in that I've been using Screenium 3 to capture ED gameplay on my iMac with good success.
