it means, a refinery is required (you probably picked up a mining fragment).

It means you need a refinery in order to refine the mining material into something you can sell.
Yes I was trying to mine actually, so I need a refinery.. makes sence..
I noticed that several of my attempt on sending out a prospector gave a message of "prospector failure" in the right upper corner.. Why?
NOte: I have a 1A Prospector and Collector limpets..
Also I cannot seem to fire a Collector.. I put them in the 3rd verticle slot ( under the Blue 2 ) ( My prospector is Also in Blue 2 but in the 2nd slot ) which is my secondary button but when I select it then fire with the secondary button ( when I cycle through weapons ) it does nothing..

a prospector either fails, when it gets out of max distance (see outfitting), or if you already have the max amount of limpets active (see outfitting).
for the collector - that sounds strange, maybe your power management turns it off when you deploy weapons? or do you have something targeted out for range while firing (should say so in the firegroup)
Ok I probably had more than one prospertor active but I will try again and see.
For the collector I will reconfig it to be by itself on its on row ( 4th row ) on the primary fire ( just as a test ) ..
PS: I was told that if there is nothing selected that the collector would collect all surrounding fragments.. ( instead of just collecting the selected target only )
but I will try by selecting the actuall targeted fragment to see if it works ok.

this IS correct, don't target anything. it could have been just a reason why your collector don't work - for exampel if you have targeted your prospector out of range -> collector won't fire.
if you experience frther problems, and you have the possibility, take a short videos of your problem(s) - it is more easy than guessing what could be wrong
otherwise, enjoy! it normally takes some rounds till one gets the hng of mining.

all is good as I did manage to fire the collectors..
