what does it mean to have a station turn green in the map?

all the sudden a station I frequently visited has turned green.

I couldn't find any info on this.

It means they like you. Your status with the controlling faction is at least Friendly.

It means you are now "friendly" with the station. You may notice the greeting you receive when you request to dock has changed.

You could have achieved that by buying and selling lots of stuff there, handing in bounties or selling map data.

a friendly station will repair your ship cheaper and may have a better selection of upgrades on offer. you'll also notice you get a nicer welcome message instead of the usual warning not to misbehave.

I had a station in a system that I had never ever visited before turn green when I sold 8 tons of illegal tobacco to their black market. So either these folks were in major weed withdrawal, or sometimes it's very easy to make them like you. Likely the former.

Factions (even minor ones) are sometimes based in several systems. If you have a high reputation with a major faction or a minor one from activities in other stations or systems, it will also affects your reputation in systems and stations you have never visited.

(The same goes for low reputation too).

When the station is green but its name is still amber you are friendly with the ruling faction of the station. When the name is green as well you are allied. Pay attention to how you are greeted when you ask permission to dock, this also changes.
